UPDATE: HE WAS FOUND!!! Our family dog ran away..just posting this because you never know...
My sister has had this dog since she was 10 (she's now 18). He is a black and white shi tzu named Pepe. He has NO COLLAR  as they had just bought new tags and didn't put them on him yet.
He was very upset by the fireworks on the 4th as he is every year but my mom had a huge party at the house with people running in and out of the house. He escaped at night we assume..no one knew he was gone until the next day....
My family posted flyers, called shelters etc...no news. I feel really sad knowing he is out there somewhere...hopefully alive but I just don't know. Ugh.
They live in Lynbrook and assume he is near the area but you never know....if anyone by any chance has heard of a dog missing that matches that description please FM me.

I honestly don't have one....my family does, I will ask my mom to send one to me.
I am so upset......and I am not even a huge dog lover, but i picture him lost and scared and starving or worse hit by a car or something...I mean I would hope someone would bring him to a shelter?? I don't know..he is super friendly but easily scared

I'm so sorry. I hope someone finds him and brings him to a shelter. in the meantime, it couldn't hurt to get his picture on a flyer and post them around their neighborhood.

They've posted flyers around town and have gone door to door in some areas to put out word.
I cannot imagine him running far...2 other times he ran from the house but came back...

My indoor only cat just fell out of my bedroom window (the screen popped out) at 4am Thursday morning. Naturally - he had no tags either. So I know exactly how you feel.
He was as shocked as I was when it happened, and he ran away.
With the help of a wonderful neighbor, we knocked on doors and told everyone in the neighborhood we could.
Then I would leave out a very small amount of food over night. Keeping him hungry enough to come back if he found the house. We put slightly more food out on the front steps overnight - along with some of his toys so he would know it was his house.
At 1am on the 4th of July - my last check for the day - He was standing there on my front steps by the food. He was shook up for about 24 hours after, but at least he came back.
HTH and good luck.
ETA - we kept the amounts of food very small because we saw him 2x's around the neighborhood but we just couldn't catch him. After 48 hrs he was very hungry. I put the food right by ourndoor - and slowly opened the door and he walked in.

2 guys found Pepe a few blocks from our house!!!!!
He was actually sitting under a tree UNDERNEATH one of his posters that my mom put up......they were like "ummmm is that the dog in the picture??".
He lost weight and is filthy but happy to be home.....my sister was hysterical, we all really were prepared to think he was gone...
I cannot believe he was found 4 days after he ran away and is ok!!! Thanks to all who prayed and FM'ed me!!!!

OMG, I could cry!!!!! This is great news.
When I entertain at home, I sometimes walk around with my dog on leash. When people are coming and going from the house, I do not have to worry because he just sticks with me. I sometimes put him in a bedroom and he does not even mind but on the leash he gets to enjoy the party and it's important for pets to socialize.

I am so happy.. I even went last night and tried to look.. I saw all the posters on Whitehall and all around over there. I was going to ask someone if they found him but no one was out or around.. This is just great.. the fact he was under the tree with his poster above him is more amazing than anything!! The power of prayer runs deep!!!

oh maureen i can't tell you how happy i was to get your message last night that they found him!!! i have been sick to my stomach thinking about him out there all alone.

I honestly couldn't believe it. My sister called me and her voice was shaking. My family is relieved he is back, I think from now on he will be on a leash when there is company. They learned a very important lesson!
