Re: Help me with big decision after 40 week apt...long

At 41w2d my DD had not progressed at ALL. She didn't drop, nothing. So we scheduled a c/s. Basically if there was no progress on her part there was no pint inducing.

So personally, I would wait til you are 41 weeks or so and make the decision then. If she hasn't even dropped, I would schedule the c/s as planned surgery is much smoother than emergency surgery.

If you are not dilating at all on your own, an induction probably won't work. I had one at 41 weeks, but I was 2.5 centimeters dilated, just not progressing.

If all seems well with the baby and you, I would probably wait another week and see if things change naturally. If not, then I guess I would go for a c-section, unless you have begun to dilate. Then I might ask for induction.

Re: Help me with big decision after 40 week apt...long

I would never electively have a c-section unless medically necessary. It is true that SOME, but not ALL inductions end in a c-section. How will you know what your body may do? As for the episitiomy, who is to say that you can't deliver this baby vaginally and be okay, with or without an epi? I never needed an epi and I delivered both of my babies vaginally.

Another thing I want to tell you is that those growth sonos aren't always right. With both of my babies, they always told me towards the end that I'd have around an 8 lb. baby and both times I ended up with 6 pounders!

ETA that I had no dilated much on my own and was given Cervidal and after that it was smooth sailing.

I would wait till 41 weeks before making the decision. And I think at that point if I were to make a decision between c-section and induction, I would go for the scheduled c-section, because, like you said, many inductions result in a c-section anyway and i would rather not have to go through the pain of being induced and going through labor, only to find out that they were going to have to have an emergency c-section anyway.

If it were I, i would wait until 41 weeks, keep walking, drinking water, and having sex, hopefully you'll get there on your own.

Re: Help me with big decision after 40 week apt...long

I would scheule the c-section for 41 weeks, and hope to go into labor before that.

DS measured over 9 lbs at my 37 week appt. The doctor said based on that and the fundal measurements she was taking that she thought he would be big and if I went full term, he would be over 10 lbs. I chose to schedule a c-section for the week I was due, with the idea that if I went into labor before then I would have the option of having him naturally. My contractions started the week of that 37 week appointment, I went to labor and delivery three times before they kept me. My contractions lasted 3 days and I had little to no sleep during that time, so I opted for the c-section and had no problems or complications. He was over 9 lbs, so I was happy with my decision.

I was 11 days late with my 7 lb 14 oz baby, I was induced and the induction itself took 3 days. I would wait it out and avoid having any kind of major surgery full stop. They are cutting you open, that can't be good if you can avoid it!! In the end he came vaginally, and I would fight tooth and nail NOT to have a C-section unless I was in dire straits

I would wait it out and try to go natural.

I should add my induction did result in a vaginal delivery. It wasn't quick (1 day), but I am glad I opted for that over a c-section. I had an episiotomy, but the recovery was still much easier I think. Never had a c-section, but I did have an appendectomy years ago, and it was hard to walk upright for awhile.

I would wait until the middle of week 41 to make the decision. Then try to schedule the induction for 42 weeks exactly and wait to see if you go naturally before the induction.
My midwife told me that most first time moms deliver at 41w3d - so don't worry too much yet - your DC will come when they are ready.

My personal feeling is to avoid a C-section as much as you can. The recovery is much more complicated - nevermind that it is major surgery.

You also have FM!
