UPDATE: I spilled the beans! How can I make the annoucement at a Work Thankgiving party?
We are having a thanksgiving party at work tomorrow. Originally we were supposed to have a staff meeting before the party, where I was going to make the big announcement. I was going to be real serious and say there are going to be some big changes in the upcoming year.....BUT the meeting got moved to today and my best friend at work isn't here, so I wouldnt feel right making the annoucement today without her here.
SO...
I am stuck making the big announcement at the party tomorrow, probably before we eat. How should I bring it up? What should I say? Now I KNOW not everyone is going to want to go around and say what they are thankful for before we eat, they will be too hungry for that! PLEASE give me some suggestions! THANKS!!
When I got engaged I made the announcement by saying..."I have an announcement to make!" and everyone knew right away! Should I do the same thing again??
***UPDATE!!!***
So we had our meeting today, and I couldnt resist. (Even though I feel really bad my friend wasnt there, I will tell her tomorrow when I bring in the pics)....
My boss came up with this game where we had to break up into groups of 4 people and then we had to write down 1 thing we needed from each person in the group, and 1 thing we were going to do for them (kinda like a team development thing)...
So we then had to go around to all the groups and each person individually said what they needed and were going to do for everyone.
My group went last, so when it was my turn, I said to my coworker...
"I NEED a babysitter"
It took a second for everyone to catch on but when they did they were all ecstatic!! It was great!!!
The opportunity was just too good, so I had to let it out!! I felt more comfortable doing it this way then at the party anyway, b/c it was just my department, and sometimes when we have parties we invite other people.

I like that one... or casually squeeze it in like real fast " oh can you please pass the salt? oh and by the way i'm pregnant" or pass on a drink "my baby doesn't like the taste of alcohol, thanks anyway"

How many of there are you?
There will be at least 20 of us at the lunch. We do not do a sit down meal, it is like a big buffet, and we all sit all over the room. Also, people are a bit loud so it may be hard to just say it in brief conversation. I would most likely need to announce it somehow.

Maybe I could make a request out loud to everyone before we eat that I get on line first to get my food b/c I am eating for 2! Is that silly?

What if you made some sort of office memo to give to everyone, I wasnt going to suggest that if there were 100's of ppl but if you made 20 copies of an office memo and folded them in half and handed them out, saying they can't open until everyone has one.

Just reminded me of how my sister announced her pregnancy at thanksgiving last year- her step son was saying a prayer and said and please bless the new baby. She had a 8 mth old at the time so I thought he was talking about her but my other sis picked up on it and said what? and she said I'm pregnant (3mths!). It was totally unexpected, loved it!

Hmmmm....I could request to bless the food. That is SO not me though, I am typically pretty quiet. But sometimes my boss will say a blessing before we eat. I wouldnt even know where to begin with a prayer, I wouldnt want it to be too religious since it is at work.
