UPDATE (in original post): Question similar to Sunny's sleeping ?? (also long)
Our DD is 9wks old and I can't get her to nap during the daytime. She sleeps in her crib OK at night. I bf, and her intervals there seem ok.. Sometimes she sleeps for 4-5 hrs on the first 'stretch', till 1am or so, then 3, then shorter ones until about 6am or so.
However, my problem is daytime napping.. I'll feed her and she'll be nice and tired, and maybe even out, but once I put her in her crib, she wakes up and doesn't go to sleep. She sleeps fine when I hold her on my chest or cradle her in my arms. For instance, this afternoon she had a nice nap with me on the couch from about 4-6:30..
I know she isn't getting enough sleep, so I'm wondering if anyone has any advice/help? I thought at first it was because the room was too light, so we put darkening shades up, so its nice and cozy there. She has gas issues, but even after I change her or pump her legs to get out gas bubbles, she still doesn't settle down in her crib.. Sometimes when I burp her after her meals, I don't get a burp, which I'm sure is probably part of the problem? Maybe I'm rushing putting her down without getting a burp?
Any help would be appreciated! We start daycare in a couple of weeks and I'd like to try to get this handled better by then! Thanks!
UPDATE: DH found something on one of the baby websites that seems helpful.
Once you put the baby down, put your hand on her chest and rock her gently. Slowly count to 100 (my addition, it seems to take ours a little while to calm down, and doing it this long seems to get her to sleep well enough). That bought me about 20 mins of shower/me time. She just woke back up, probably from gassiness, but it was a glorious shower while it lasted

Re: Question similar to Sunny's sleeping ?? (also long)
I'm having the EXACT same problem with my DD. She'll be 8 wks this Sunday and the only way I can get her to nap is her I'm holding her. The minute I put her down...eyes fly wide open and she's awake. I've even tried letting her cry a little bit, thinking she'd fall asleep, but NOPE.
I go back to work in 5 weeks...so, I too would like to have her on a better nap schedule before daycare begins.
HELP!!!!!!

Re: Question similar to Sunny's sleeping ?? (also long)
I am sooo glad to hear I'm not alone, but I'm sorry you are going through the same thing as well! Maybe our tempermental little daughters could take care of US sleeping during the day, since they don't want to lol..
Seriously, we've been having this problem for a few weeks as well, and at first my DH thought I was being too touchy (you know, jumping at the littlest whimper), until he stayed with her for an afternoon..
Yea, I tried letting her cry, and she just gets more upset, poor little thing.

Re: Question similar to Sunny's sleeping ?? (also long)
Kerri would not nap at all...I tried everything and nothing worked....then suddenly at 4 months she just started napping on her own...set a pattern and now at 7 1/2 months she is still on it
Go figure

Re: Question similar to Sunny's sleeping ?? (also long)
I really hope DD falls into a nap routine eventually. I know I can't force it...but I'll keep trying everyday. I don't mind having her fall asleep in my arms, but 1. she's getting heavy 2. I can't get anything done! 3. I really don't think the caregivers at daycare are going to hold her for a 1-2 hour nap

Sophie doesnt like to nap in her crib either. If she does, its for about 15-20 minutes then she'll start crying because her pacifier will fall out (so she's never really in a deep sleep). She'll nap in her swing or when we're out in the car with no problem. I keep trying everyday to be consistent but it's not working yet- she's 11 weeks old.

Re: UPDATE (in original post): Question similar to Sunny's sleeping ?? (also long)
My DD didn't nap in her crib until she was almost 8 months old. She would nap in her swing. One day she fell asleep in the car and I brought her up to her crib - and every since then she has napped in her crib. It took some getting used to, but it will happen.
I will say this - I was consistent with nap times since she was a few months old. It helps alot later on.

Re: UPDATE (in original post): Question similar to Sunny's sleeping ?? (also long)
we have the same issues about napping around here... he is 12 wks old. Nikolas is an AWFUL napper .. the only ways I can get him to nap is in the car, in the stroller, or if I hold him the entire time.. sometimes I just take him for a drive to get him to pass out then bring him inside the house and HOPE and pray just stays asleep in his carseat so I can get a few things done!
Luckily he's ok at night abaout sleeping in his pack n play.. but during the day - no way!

Re: UPDATE (in original post): Question similar to Sunny's sleeping ?? (also long)
At this age the ONLY placein the house my son would nap is in the swing. And when he fell asleep I would NOT move him. I would just lower the setting and let him swing away. He would sleep in there for about two hours.
I would worry myself sick about creating bad habits and would try to move him into the crib but it would always fail. I would stay up all night wondering what I would do when he outgrew the swing. I spend so much time worrying! Now looking back I should have just let him be. Some babies especially with gas issues need movement to distract them from their gas pains. He would sleep like an angel in the and stroller. On his own at about seven months he started napping in his crib and playpen.
Don't worry just let her sleep where she can. At such a young age whatever works!
