Update!!! Missing Bird--White Plains, NY
My 14 year old Grey Cockateil flew out my backdoor yesterday afternoon. I am devastated! I have been handing out flyers and contacting local rescues/SPCA and vets in hope of finding him. I also put up a post on craigslist and 911parrotalert.com--I am on my way to fill out a report at the police station now. Any additional suggestions??
I put his cage in the yard with his favorite treats hoping he will find his way back.
Update:
My bird was found and I picked him up this afternoon and brought him home! I took him to the avian vet and she said he looks good--I have to wait for his blood tests to come back tomorrow just to make sure everything is OK. I am so happy to have him home!

We have not found him yet. As each day passes I feel less hopeful we will find him. DH and I have been checking the neighborhood but there is no sign of him.

So sorry! Try putting his cage outside with fresh water and food. My grey cockatiel got out once and I did this. He immediately recognized it and flew in it. Praying for you!!

He was found in the backyard of a older couple's house nearly four miles away. They found him on Saturday and took his picture to the pet store to find out the best food for him. The store told them he was a cockatiel--Today they contacted the shelter where I volunteer who then sent out an email to other Westchester rescue groups. It turns out that I had just emailed one of the rescue groups shortly before they received the email about someone finding a lost cockatiel. They rescue group called me and gave me the name and phone number of the person who found him. I called the guy and he gave a description of the bird he found--DH and I went to see the bird and it was our bird. I am so happy to have my baby bird back! He now has clipped wings and will have to adjust-I am not taking a chance of losing him ever again.

I have always been a huge supporter/advocate of rescue groups and now I have a happy ending because of a caring couple and two rescues that I have supported for the past few years. As it turns out, both daughters of the couple volunteered at the shelter where I am a volunteer which is the first shelter they called--I guess it is good Karma coming back to me for taking the time to help homeless pets.
