Update on Jacob.. (long, sorry)
Ok, here is the latest...
Went to the ped again this week, had to bring in those poop cards that you smear their poop on to check for any blood since he had the diarrhea for a week. That looked good.
Told Doc i tried the rice cereal again and it was not good. He said he may have celiac disease,(which is an allergy to gluten) and wanted me to take him for bloodwork and also sched an appt with the head of Pediatric Gastroenterology at Schneider's Childrens Hospital. My heart just sank. If he has this disease i will just Die!! In the meantime while waiting for blood results I was told to start giving him organic fruits and see what happens. So off i went to get his blood drawn and of course they couldnt get it in his left arm, it was only dripping out, and so they stuck him in his right arm, with the same outcome. She said she was hardly getting anything and that they would only be able to do a few tests with what she got, and he would have to come back for more blood!!
Watching my poor baby get stuck with needles and hearing him scream just broke my heart into millions of pieces.
My question to the Dr was that i thought rice was gluten free, so since he couldnt even tolerate that isnt that a good sign as far as celiac disease goes? He said no, sometimes the wheat can cross contaminate it, or they can have fillers in it. He asked if i had given him organic rice cereal and i said no. He got mad cause that's what he told me to do and i didnt listen.
So this past thurs i gave him apples in the morn, and he seemed to be ok. No screaming, no farting.. no diarrhea. So friday i did it again, just the morning, and i did notice that he was waking more Friday night. Saturday i spoke to the ped on the phone and he told me to now increase it to breakfast, lunch and dinner. And i did and he was waking up so much last night with GAS! So now i dont know... some people say that apples can give some babies gas, so tomorrow I am staring pears. I dont know if the gas was just related to apples being gassy or if he is having an intolerance to the apples now too. I HATE ALL THIS SOOOO MUCH!
He said he got the results from the blood work back.. and they didnt do any of the allergy tests he ordered. They just did a CBC and all that other ******** and he said all that came back normal but thats not what he was interested in. He wrote so much stuff on the script as far as what tests he wanted, and i guess they just used what little blood they got for the CBC and chem panel.. and there wasnt any left for the allergy panels.
So he said to hold off on going back for more blood work for now, he doesnt want to torture the baby again so soon. He said if he takes to the fruits and veggies, then go BACK to the cereal but make it organic and see how it goes. And that when i see the G.I doctor on June 20th they can draw more blood there if need be. Now the ped is changing his mind and thinking maybe Jacob has a soy allergy. He said for me not to worry, that we will figure this out. He said "Jacob is def making me earn my money!!
So tomorrow i will try pears and i hope that the apples just are a gassy fruit and that its nothing more serious with his G.I tract. I dont want my baby to have to go thru these tests either, and i really dont want him to have to be on a gluten free diet his whole life.
Please just pray that its nothing more than an immature G.I tract, and that the he tolerates the fruits and veggies and cereal eventually. He also upped his zantac for the A.R. I'm hoping if anything that maybe the reflux has something to do with it too, and that he will outgrow all of this. Thanks for listening.. Sorry so long...

I am so sorry! I almost never give Miranda apples or banannas because they are so constipating. I've only used organic cereal and baby food and she's done really well on most of it. I hope that helps.

Re: Update on Jacob.. (long, sorry)
Awww Noreen... Im soooo sooo sorry....
How old is Jacob now??? How come they are pushing for him to be on solids now rather than waiting a bit...???? Is it because they wanna figure out whats wrong??? Maybe all around... he's just not ready??
Also- Apples made Ryan very gassy..... I started off with them.... and as soon as I introduced other fruits.... I stopped using them... for a month or so... and then he was fine....
Keeping your sanity and little Jacob in our

Re: Update on Jacob.. (long, sorry)
apples gave Aly gas too, but it tapered off after a few days of eating them. Pears gave her lots of poop the first round (4 days) but now I give it to her in the AM with her cereal and she's fine.
Also, don't forget that it takes a babys' system several days to a week to adjust to new foods, so that might be the gas too.....just his system adjusting. Be patient and it's going to be all right!!
