Update on new mommy post.. UPDATE 2
I posted this weekend about congestion in newborns. Well, despite everything I've been doing- Amelia isn't getting any better.
I called the dr. again this morning since they didn't return my call on Saturday. Poor baby also has thrush so it was really a 2 part phone call...anyway- when I mentioned the congestion and mucus and the fact that it's colored, they said to bring her in today at 1:45.
Now I'm totally worried. I have an absolute fear that they're going to send us to the ER- although the logical part of me knows she doesn't have a fever and they probably won't send her there and risk her getting something far worse...
Please send positive thoughts and calming vibes to me. Nothing like having a sick 4wk old baby... I feel terrible Thank goodness I followed my gut and kept calling them.
***UPDATE*** Well, we went to the dr. They gave me a wonderful script for the thrush medicine- which must taste nasty because I can not get Amelia to keep it in her mouth I can't wait for that nasty mess to be gone- although I'm well aware it takes weeks... As for the congestion, they said to keep an eye on it. Right now her lungs are clear and her nasal cavities aren't inflamed so they sent us home. We have to go back next week to follow up. Thankfully everything else is good- ears, lungs, respiratory rate, heart rate- so she doesn't appear to be uncomfortable or in distress. The dr said it is probably just a head cold, it doesn't seem to be regular newborn congestion- but she said to just keep doing what I'm doing and they'll check her again next week.
Thanks so much for all the advice and insight. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she gets better by next weeks appointment

I totally understand the fear....stay positive and we'll . Hang in there honey! Let us know how it goes! If she doesn't have a fever, I'm sure they can avoid the hospital!

Re: Update on new mommy post..
I personally dread my newborn getting sick. It's good that you followed your gut, only you know how bad she's doing and how she's been. I hope you she feels better soon.

I hope she gets better real soon
I was dreading DS's first illness. At 4 months he got a bad cold and so happy when he got better. thank goodness it was only in his nose and his chest and ears were clear.

Re: Update on new mommy post..
awwww... hang in there! It stinks but they will help. My DD got RSV at 2 weeks old. I was terrified but the night in the hospital did help. They could suction out the stuff way better than I could and they gave her breathing treatments.
They won't send you to the hospital unless they have to and you won't have to go through the ER if your doctor admits her.
Hang in there

Re: Update on new mommy post.. UPDATE 2
Just for the future . . . ask the ped about how gross the medicine is and then ask them to write "flavor it" on the script. I just paid $3 to add cherry flavor to DD's antibiotic at my ped's suggestion.
Keep following your mommy instincts regarding her breathing/congestion. It will guide you.

Good idea!! I totally forgot that you can have flavors now!!! On a funny note, the dr tells me "It's hard to keep the antibiotics in their mouth so put it in and swish it around with a q-tip"... I guess I should have known better- DD has a nasty death grip on anything that goes in her mouth. Times like this when I'm thankful I couldn't BF.. DH & I had to pry her mouth open to get the q-tip out
