Update on vaccine post - another Question
Hi ladies -
thanks for all of your wonderful and friendly input - I really appreciate it.
I feel strongly about the "Big" vaccines - MMR, you know - all the ones we grew up with - I feel our child should have those.
I did some soul searching, and realized its all the little ones that are given now - the ones that can't kill you - like chicken pox.
Would my child HAVE to be vaccinated for chicken pox if I chose to do the other vaccinations?
What about the hepatitis vaccinations? I only got those when I was an adult...

yes, you cant pick and choose the vaccines but you CAN delay the shots. Emma has not had the chicken pox shot but she will get it before she goes to school.
The hep shot is a well tolerated shot (according to my ped) so I let her get that one although I also delayed it because the risk is SO low.

Re: Update on vaccine post - another Question
I am on the fence about chicken pox too- I don't think it's mandated for school, which is good if you decide against it. A few years ago one of my students had it, and came to school (twice!). I surveyed the kids and ALL of them had been vaccinated (and I didn't even know there was such a thing.)
Hep vaccines- aren't those bloodbourne illnesses? If so, I am going to look into my baby having those before school. I have found that kids are always getting cuts and scrapes at school and I always get anxious about the blood, especially being pregnant.

I hate to sound like one of those mothers, but when your baby comes and you are living with him/her and you are with them around other kids, you might feel totally differently! Honestly! I think its a bit premature planning all these little things that you will and won't do once your baby is here.
I swore I would never give my kid chocolate and today he has had 2 chocolate cookies!!! You never know how you will feel once that baby is here!

Very true, but its also a good idea to be educated before your baby is born because once your child is here there is a lot less time to research a lot of these issues. I kind of wish I read up more on the vaccinations before my son was born.

Re: Update on vaccine post - another Question
Check with the ped because sometimes they combine the shots so it is less needles pricks for the babies. The chicken pox one might be combined with something else important
