*** UPDATE ***
Thank you to everyone!! WE DID IT!!!!!!! Thanks to your diligent voting in the Betty Crocker’s Stirring Up Wishes™ Campaign, we won the $7,000.00 to grant a wish for a local child!!!!
We will grant the wish of Alyssa from Lake Grove. (read her story below) Please read it and pass it along to anyone who you know that helped us. We could never have done this without the support of all of you!!!!!
Thank you again!!
Alyssa's Story:
Eighteen-year-old Alyssa from Lake Grove is passionate about learning. Having diastrophic syndrome, a rare form of dwarfism, has never hindered her from trying new activities, like playing the drums, being a member of a wheelchair basketball team, and taking dance lessons. In fact, Alyssa recently received a ten-year award from her dance school! She is also a whiz kid in the classroom, being a member of both the National Honor Society and German Honor Society. When Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Suffolk County, NY, Inc. was contacted to grant Alyssa’s wish, she expressed her desire to continue to broaden her education by attending college.
Thanks to the supporters who voted online for the Suffolk County chapter during Betty Crocker’s “Stirring Up Wishes”™ program, Alyssa’s special wish will come true! Last March, Betty Crocker® teamed up with Make-A-Wish Foundation® to help fund twelve wishes for twelve different national chapters, and the Suffolk chapter received enough votes to win $7,000 from the contest! These funds will be used to defray the cost of Alyssa’s tuition when she starts classes at Dowling College in Oakdale this fall. Since she plans on pursuing a career in teaching special education at the middle school level, Dowling is a perfect fit as it has the specific program she needs. Additionally, Dowling is a close commute from her home and she will be taking a handicapped accessible bus to and from campus.
Alyssa is very excited to begin a new chapter in her life – a chapter that is certain to be filled with many more major milestones. Look out, world…here comes Alyssa!
