update: severe granny ankle
please tell me someone has a remedy I haven't tried. I'm 35 weeks and it's killing me. my feet look like sausages. they were totally fine (only the slightest bit of swelling) until last week. then we had 3 busy days and nights in a row and one salty meal and BAM, I'm incapacitated... and nothing I do improves the situation.
I drink tons of water (5-6 L a day) I'm eating low salt I'm trying to keep my feet elevated when possible I'm using a menthol foot cream
my feet are so severe that I'm anxiously awaiting my dr appt on thurs. they just don't look right
could all of this just be due to Scone's preference of squashing his huge body to the same side of my body as the venous return from my legs
I hope so... I hope it's not a sign of pre-eclampsia (my BP was perfect 2 weeks ago).
UPDATE: wait wait wait! let me answer my own question:

YES! Prior to last night, I never took the 'we should only sleep on our left side' too seriously. But I was desperate, so I gave it a try. I also drank an extra liter of water during the night....
while the rest of me is a tad achy from not rolling over during the night, my ankles and feet look MUCH MUCH better! They don't look like they did pre-pregnancy, but they DO look like they did 2-3 weeks ago, before my pacoderm feet developed.
I think the combo of 3 busy days and nights, eating too much restaurant / catering food (with all the salt), and Scone preferentially resting on top of the veins carrying blood returning from my legs was enough to create this scenario.
I never realized how much sleeping on the left could do! Keep this tucked in the back of your mind in case you develop the same problem.

Re: help! severe granny ankle
Sorry...no remedies.
If I can make a suggestion...maybe you should call the Dr's office and see if they can take you in tomorrow instead of waiting another day. Swollen feet/ankles always worry me after I had preeclampsia.
I also just read on a website that it can happen at any time even if 2 wks ago your bp was fine.
I'm not trying to scare you. I just want to make sure you are o.k. I would call and ask just to be safe... (jmo)

Re: help! severe granny ankle
I think you're right. they're on my way to work, so even if I can't see a Dr, I should be able to get my urine checked for protein, my BP checked, and my weight checked.... if those 3 are ok, there are no worries.......
it's wierd though... no hand swelling or face swelling, and no other symptoms of preeclampsia.
my feet though are horrible. it's very concerning.
thanks for your input!

Re: help! severe granny ankle
No prob... I'm just a freak now whenever I hear someone has swollen feet/ankles.
I don't remember hand or face swell either but it was awhile ago.
Anyway, keep us posted. I'm sure it's just a fun part of being pregnant but at least you'll have some piece of mind.

Re: help! severe granny ankle
I had very bad swelling in my ankle and feet. The last 2 months of my pregnancy were in flip flops. No shoes even in bigger size would fit.
You need to check with the Dr. asap to make sure it's not preeclampsia.
It was not for me but it was horrible.
They do special socks that you can put on in the morning but with the hot weather it's just not practical.

Re: update: severe granny ankle
mine also started to get puffy last week at 36 weeks. By night time I look like Fred Flinstone
Someone told me to float lemons in my pitcher of water..I don't know why just to float them...but it is supposed to draw the water from the skin back into the body

well, vitamin C is supposed to be helpful somehow in treating edema... read that online last night, but I'm not sure how it works...
I've been drinking over 5 L of water all along... and coincidentally, I've been adding a squirt of lime or lemon all of this time.... (That's A LOT of lemon and lime after several months )
