Update: They are back -DD is breaking out in "hives"

I just gave DD a bath and I noticed while she was in the bath that it seems as though she is breaking out in hives, just on her legs. Should I call the Ped. service? DH is stuck on an arrest and Im freaking out right now.

Re: DD is breaking out in "hives"

Are you sure it's hives and not just some red spots from the warm tub? DD gets red legs and butt from the tub even though it's not hot. Hives are usually on the face/chest.

Call the ped's after hours number and describe what you're seeing. Most rashes aren't emergencies and you're going to the ped tomorrow anyway so they will likely tell you to keep an eye on it. (DD gets unexplained rashes a lot, so I'm used to that call). If nothing else, you'll feel better after you call.

Go to the appointment tomorrow regardless. I would take a pic tonight of what you're seeing incase it is gone tomorrow....then you can show the ped what was going on tonight and let him/her make the call on whether it's something worth delaying shots for.

Well that's good that it went away so quickly. Like I said before, DD gets unexplained rashes all of the time and literally an hour later they disappear. The ped has always told me that if it was something to really worry about it wouldn't go away so quickly.

I'm glad it went away! Chat Icon

Re: DD is breaking out in "hives"

They are back and now all around her eyes and mouth. I just called the ped. and she told me to give her the Benedryl and watch for wheezing. I think I might just want to bring her to the ER. Im seriously panicked right now.

Just relax and let the benedryl start to work, if it doesn't work in 1/2 hour take her to the ER if it makes you more comfortable.

She will be ok. Benedryl works wondersChat Icon

Did she eat anything new today?

I would definitely give her the benadryl again and if you don't see a change very quickly, I would go to the ER Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

What you are describing sounds just like something that DD had about 2 months ago , and it didn't seem to bother her no etching or scratching, we were freaking out. It started on her legs and spread to her back in 24 hours. We went to the PEd and he thought it was fungus(which I knew was wrong, bc it appeared after every bath ) So we saw dermatologists(2 opinions) and they both diagnosed her with eczema. They said it can be caused by dry skin or some kind of allergic reaction. We got 1% Hydrocortisone cream to apply on the area and "cerave" moisturizer to put all over her morning and evening(which I do every day).

Please keep us posted . Good luckChat Icon

Well the hives are gone and she is acting just fine, I just cannot figure out what the heck caused this. Chat Icon Chat Icon She ate egg yolks today (has them all the time), chicken that I made (there was some lemon on it which I think is a first for her) blueberries (she eats them off and on, no problem ever) yogurt (eats it all the time) that is all I can think of.

DS had a virus a few weeks ago and he kept getting random hives. One time it was just his legs, then just his arms, then his WHOLE body, just his scalp etc. It lasted a few days and the benadryl always worked pretty quickly.

Hope your DD feels better! Chat Icon
