If you return to Amazon they have to notify the buyer. I tried to return a tablet my in laws bought us last year because we did not need it, we have 4, but I didn't want them to know, we ended up keeping it because Amazon said they would have to notify the buyer.

Are you sure because I returned a gift via amazon and it specifically said that the gift giver would not be notified AND the credit went straight to my account..

My friend returned a bag she got last year for Christmas as well and the buyer wasn't notified and she received a credit in her account.

This makes me so mad. Lol. They specifically told me my in laws would be notified. So we kept a tablet that we ddid not need. I'm so angry.

That is so strange. Maybe it was from a random 3rd party seller or something?

Why does the buyer need to be notified?

Sell the bag on eBay. Or on the Long Island moms group.

I kinda agree with this. By buying you something that they know you will never use, its like not buying you a gift at all.

UPDATE!!! Tricky gift problem- would you have DH say something?

This is the most bizarre and narcissistic thing I've read in a while. Really??? They are going to give you a $300 gift that they know you won't like just because it'll make FIL feel good? Isn't gift giving about making the receiver feel good, not the giver? I can't even comprehend this. This is just so insanely selfish.

Sell that bag on a buy and sell group or ebay.
At least you'll get SOMETHING for it

Am I the only one that thinks it's sweet that FIL picked out a bag for his DIL and the MiL doesn't want his feelings hurt?? For that alone I would wear it when I see FIL. Chat Icon

Normally I would agree but given the backstory her FIL doesn't seem like a sweet man who did it out of the kindness of his heart. And $300 is a lot to throw away on a gift.

I agree. Her FIL bought a coach bag off a private seller. It's not like he saw it at the store and thought of her. Personally I always like to give the person the option to return it.

in that case, is it possible MIL bought it for herself and ended up hating it and is now giving it to DIL since they cant return it? in that case, shame on them. but in 5 years, will you be stressed about this? probably not. I'd just let it go. a coach bag is NOT worth stress or a potential wrinkle. pshh!
