{{UPDATE: We Have poop!!!!}}How long with no poop for a breastfed 2 month old would you wait take her to the Dr.?
At 5am it was 24 hours...she usually poops after every feeding. Plus she is very gassy and her stomach is gurgling alot. She usually eats every 2-3 hours, but has been sleeping through that now and eating every 4-6 hours. She may just be changing her eating schedule because she is just starting to make her own sleep schedule(even though its up all night). I have a call in to the Dr but he wont get back to me until tonight at least. Should I just make an appt for today? Im afraid he wont call back(they arent always great about that-I left a message on non-emergency answering machine.) I just want her to poop!!!!
Update: She finally pooped after 32 hours...Ive never been so happy to clean a poopy diaper before!!

Re: How long with no poop for a breastfed 2 month old would you wait take her to the Dr.?
My Doc had a 5 day rule
BM is the perfect food, around that time, there's no waste, baby is using it all. My doc said not to let her go more than 5 days if she doesn't seem uncomfy.
I would panic on the 4th day and give her pear juice and have a huge mess on my hands for the next two days!
It's totally normal for BF babies not to go everyday

I know right I used to freak out by the 4th day, don't get me wrong, i wasn't calm and cool about it either, i had many calls into PED
If she is EBF, bf'd babies typically don't get constipated. She just has no waste to eliminate.
it def won't hurt to call the PED and see what yours says

5 days does sound so long. The longest I let my DD go without pooping was 3 days. That was long enough.
Of course, you can call your ped if you are concerned but I wouldn't call after 24 hours of no bowel movement. When I eventually called my ped, he recommended suppositories. They sell them for infants and we cut them in half in length. Those really did the trick instantly. Your ped might even just recommend some water or prune juice for the baby.

My peds had me try the therm. trick, water, and then suppository, when those didnt work, then he had me bring her in. 3 days was the amount of time, unless DC seems to be in pain.

Regardless of the time since last poop, not pooping is always a problem if they refuse to eat b/c of it.

I agree with that, and if they seem uncomfy.
My doc had 5 days before he'd see them, but then again, my girls never went past the 4-5 days and my doc would never let me use any "tricks" to make them go besides juice.
Everyone's different. I always say, trust your mommy gut, don't listen to anyone else. if it will make you feel better to call, def call-that's what your PED is there for.

both my kids went about 24-48 hours between each at this age - it is definitely normal, but doesn't last

Re: How long with no poop for a breastfed 2 month old would you wait take her to the Dr.?
My DS went 48 hours without pooping. I did call the ped and they also told me that BF babies can go 5 days without pooping. He finally went that day. They told me I could use a thermometer or q-tip that may stimulate the rectum. If the baby seems really uncomfortable and is struggling to go I would go to the doctor. On my next visit they had to do a rectal exam because the sphinter was too tight and he was struggling too much to go. Now we are back to normal and pooping a few times a day again.

Re: How long with no poop for a breastfed 2 month old would you wait take her to the Dr.?
7-10 days as long as they don't seem uncomfortable or straining to go. When I was BFing my DS he would only go once a week, but when he went it was still mushy and not firm at all (sorry for TMI) so it wasn't like he was constipated. Once I introduced solids he started going every day, but when he was only getting BM it was only once a week and he was fine. In fact I loved it, less stinky diapers to clean!!

Re: How long with no poop for a breastfed 2 month old would you wait take her to the Dr.?
Call your doctor, but it's not unusual for small babies to be irregular. DH was going 4 days between poop in the beginning, and I thought it was weird. But when he went, it was soft and normal looking, so his doctor wasn't worried. She said a lot of babies go a week! I think this is more common with bottle fed babies, but can happen with both.
At any rate, after one day, things are probably still fine.
