UPDATE _ WENT FOR THE TEST -NFR - Halo Breast Pap Exam - can detect cancer cells in breast 7-8 yrs before a liason wold be found!
Has anyone heard of this. My Dr is now offering this. Its a $1200 test but we only pay $125 after the ins company.
Its a 5 min test that collects the breast fluid, where abnormal cancer cells can be detected.
I am going for the test on friday.

UPDATE -
Ok - so I went today for the test. The nurse compared it to a breastfeeding pump but I have never breastfed so I dont know what that feels like.
its basically 2 suction cup looking things that they place over your breast. Once the machine is turned on you feel a suctioning. The test is 5 min long. The last 2 min (aprox) are a bit more intense. It just feels like a pinching. It is uncomfortable but totally tolerable.
I had a normal result, which means there was no fluid collected from my breast. So I am at a normal risk for breast cancer, not an increased risk.
Insurance does not cover it. Its a $1200 test , my Dr charges $125 to his patients. Some Dr's are charging $300.
Totally worth it either way!

my doctor's office offers it but haven't done it yet. curious to hear how you feel about it afterwards.

I heard about this last year, but havn't gotten it
Could you please update your post when you get it done, and let us know if you felt any pain during or afterwards. or any other side effects. TIA

i have heard about this, but don't know anyone that has done it. it's fairly new so i don't know how reliable it is yet. i would be really interested in hearing about your experience --- please post a follow-up!

I got one last year- most insurance companies dont cover it because it is so new- my gyno charged me $125.
The machine looks a lot like a breast pump- they put it on you- it fills with warm water and they try and get fluid- if fluid comes out they test it for cancer cells- if nothing comes out it is an automatic negative
eta- it was slightly uncomfortable but not painful.

My obgyns office does this test also. It is a yearly test just like a mammogram. I havent done it yet. My mom passed away from breast cancer at 47 so my obgyn tells me it something to think about. As for now i go for my yearly mammos and sonos, and ive had an mri in the past. Please let me know how the test goes.

yes. my Dr said I would be paying $125 out of pocket. To me - so worth it.
I will update the post after the test is done

I had one done in April at my annual exam. It was a little uncomfortable, but not too bad.

My breast specialist recommended it - haven't done it yet but am going to find out how much it would cost me at my next dr. visit.
