Updated - Pediatric Behaviorist?
I am at the end of my rope and I need to make an appointment for DS. Since Thanksgiving, we have had toilet regression. His teacher said to ignore it and just make him change himself (which I have done and it has not worked). The psychologist said to start potting training again. We have done charts, treats, dancing, books, videos, etc. Hasnt worked. He is also not able to stay dry overnight either. All of which he has been doing successfully for 8 months at least.
ten minutes ago i reminded him to go to the potty, he went (I watched) and here we are on the couch and he says "I had an accident." I am soaked, he is soaked and my couch is soaked. I am so done
We are in Selden, so looking for someone local - who takes insurance. I cannot pay out of pocket right now. :sigh: TIA
UPDATE:
I took him to the pediatrician today and his urine is "beautiful." It should be noted that DS could not wait to pee in a cup
So it's behavioral (wish it could have been fixed with an antibiotic). I did speak with his teacher and she said since I receive Parent Training she has to see if she can refer me to a behaviorist
That said, my son did manage to stay dry all day today and pottied once without a reminder
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let this be the end of this "phase."
As to overnights, pediatrician said I should put him back in pullups and that he was still too young to stay dry overnight... Clearly the past 6 months he has NOT been too young to stay dry so why go backwards...(she said to save myself some laundry)

Pediatric Behaviorist?
How old is he? You should have a certified behaviorist in school that you can request specific times with. While I didn't have potty issues we had a few other issues pop up and we put DD in "crisis mode" and they immediately gave her unlimited time with the behaviorist including home hours. If not, LIJ has a developmental ped/behaviorist team and I find them exceptional. I go to their office on Commack. They take insurance.

No advice, but I just wanted to add that I just signed DS up for this team and the earliest appt times are not until April, for all locations.
Probably even later than that now since I signed him up before the holidays.
And I work for the health system.

Re: Pediatric Behaviorist?
Karenk122 does a behaviorist act like a SEIT therapist? What instances would you look into one?
Domino sorry you are going through this I've dealt with regression and it can be very frustrating and I admit got upset which you aren't supposed to do. I hope he gets back on track quickly.

Re: Pediatric Behaviorist?
I'm not 100% because I haven't gone through the program yet, but I think they are moreso psychologists and MDs who can do actual testing and (MDs) prescribe meds if there is a need for it.
DS used to have a SEIT and she had her degree in special education.
FM Lipglossjunky though. I know she works in the field and knows a ton about behavior.

Pediatric Behaviorist?
If you have a real emergency you can get an earlier appointment. You may have to beg and plead but you can. We are kind of lucky, if you can call needed to go to a dev ped lucky, but they find DD's case fascinating, I think because she was adopted and her being non verbal for so long and now excelling as well as being a girl (not very common in autism). I called last week and got an appointment for the end of January. If they won't give you an appointment, call every day for a cancellation. They do happen.
The behaviorist is totally different than a SEIT. A SEIT in my mind is there to help with learning and teaching new things. The behaviorist is literally to help mold and modify behaviors. Our behaviorist works with the teachers and with my dev ped to work on approaches that work for DD. The teacher, aide or SEIT would then implement the plan the behaviorist developed.

Re: Pediatric Behaviorist?
The first issue is that DS stays dry in school...he holds it the whole time he is there...but then he pees ont he bus home...and it never stops. I get parent training once a month who is the one who told me that I need to start from the beginning of toilet training again. He is PhD. You mentioned LIJ Karen. DS sees Dr. Adeseman. Do you recommend a behaviorist there? Maybe I can get a faster appt. time since I am already "in the system" or does it not workt that way? I will lose my mind if I have to deal with this behavior until April

Re: Pediatric Behaviorist?
DS is not in the system yet and the intake application specifically said this was the date of entry of the program, kind of a take it or leave it.
Maybe if you are a recurring pt already it's different.
It's also really difficult to get the person who schedules appts on the phone and I have several direct extensions for him.
Unfortunately for me too, I am with pts myself all day which gives me limited opportunity to stalk them for an appt.
We were playing phone tag for quite awhile because he would return my calls when I was treating.
I understand your pain, trust me and just wanted to give you .
I wish there was a different system, but I have spoken to other moms who are in a similar boat, and unfortunately, this tends to be it, and you deal with it the best you can.
Not saying it's right or I agree with it.......

We see Dr. Adeseman as well and I think he is wonderful. Call up and go to his secretary, Christine (I think that's her name) and see if she can get you in faster. I do think though that the school needs to be doing something as well. If he is holding it in all day than that is not acceptable. They should be working on a plan at school as well as home. DD wasn't potty trained until she was in K and they had a very firm schedule that we followed at home at school. If he regressed they should be going back to the scheduling.

Re: Pediatric Behaviorist?
he is not full day anymore. He is only 1/2 day now. He gets on the bus at 8:40 to go and then takes bus home at 11:30 (takes him 45 mintues to get home). He doesnt make it home dry. This happened a few times before thanksgiving when he would fall asleep on the bus. I told the school to make sure he went before he got on the bus and they insist they are.

Pediatric Behaviorist?
I FMed you back but I forgot to add in that maybe you should talk to your regular ped too. Maybe he has an UTI that is making him go so often and not noticing when he has too.

Funny you should mention that I was thinking the same thing...wouldn't he have some discomfort though? I'll call the ped tomorrow anyway...

Pediatric Behaviorist?
Maybe or maybe not. My DD has never once told me she felt sick and she's had ear infections, flu, stomach issues. She doesn't get the whole "feeling/emotion" thing. Good luck!

Re: Pediatric Behaviorist?
I agree with Karen.
I think kids in general have a hard time explaining when they don't feel well.
With DS, on occasion he's told me right before he is about to vomit that "his tummy feels rumbly".
Most of the time, it's just my intuition that something is off with him.
You've also read in other threads about DS behavior.........I've had a few people suggest to me to have him taken for thorough blood work because his diet even could be contributing to his outbursts (he refuses a lot of protein and prefers mostly carb-based meals) and it could be some kind of deficiency.
Good luck and keep us updated..

You can always FM me but I am thinking with toileting you really want to speak with a doctor first to rule out any medical urinary tract issues...
