UPDATED-anyone's DC on Nasonex, Clarityn or Singulair? litttle long and wwyd

DD has dust allergy (we had her tested for allergies last year) she was doing fine and we never needed to give her any meds, but this past month or so she has been extremely congested and coughing on and off, waking up in the middle of the night, she doesn't have a cold , so I figured it's allergy . We try to eliminate dust as much as we can at home, but obviously there is dust everywhere, including prek..... So anyway, I took her to our PED this morning and he also thinks that it's allergies. He said it could be dust , cold and dry air . He recommended we go back to see the allergist since there is a chance she might have developed other allergies....
But in the meantime he prescribed Nesonex nasal spray before bed, Clarityn before bed only when she is very congested AND Singulair every day. Honestly I don't feel comfortable giving DD so many meds , especially without going to her allergist first. I was just reading about Nesonex and read this : " Controlled clinical studies have shown intranasal corticosteroids may cause a reduction in growth velocity in pediatric patients. " and of course this freaked me out Chat Icon

So I'm wondering if anyone has a DC on all of these or one of these meds and if your DC has any side effects and what are they.
Also would you give all 3 meds or not give any meds for now and go to an allergist first?

UPDATE

so we saw our allergist today, I spoke to him, told him about DD's symptoms and he said it sounds like a persistent upper respiratory infection (he said if I clean as much as I tell him I do than there is no way it's dust mite allergy). This was before he even do the tests, then he did the tests, he was right, DD came back negative for everything, other than dust mites, BUT it was just a little bit red, not like last year when her hole arm got red. So he said she isn't even allergic to dust mites that much any more.
He did prescribe Singulair tablets and said to start her on this and see how it goes, let him know in 2 weeks. I guess we'll see how it works , I;m picking it up tomorrow.
He said no Clarityn and no nasonex for now.

Thanks everyone for all your replies Chat Icon

my son does not have an allergies that i know of yet but i have a severe dust allergy

i would talk to the allergist - and try one med first before going nuts - allergies are trial and error and even for myself i don't like startign two new ones at the same time - easier to differentiate side effects

house hold things to do
do you have her bed in a dust mite bag - did you duct tape the zipper
pillow in dust mite cover

do you have humidifier

clean filters of the house

wash sheets on hot water at least once a week

don't make her bed if there is a comforter and turn off the humidifier when she wakes up dust mites grow in humid air better

good luck

My ds is 6 years old, he has allergy induced asthma. He is on ALL three of those drugs during spring time. He has been on it since 3 years old. Right now he is on Claritin every morning and singluair every night. That is a constant. Hes never had side effects from any of the drugs. And all three have helped him tremendously. Fm me if you have any other questions.

Allergy momma here

And TX is killing both her and me! haha

Yes I give her Claritin daily. 1/2 tsp in the morning and 12hrs later another 1/2 tsp since she was a little over 1yr old. Lately we've also introduced Benedryl which was OK'ed for her awhile back but I held off. We give that now (1tsp) for 6hrs instead of her evening dose of Claritin so we have more control on what's in her system. She goes 'without' for about 6hrs.

We control dosage by making her suffer (sounds terrible but I'd rather her not be on stuff). If she's super bad, we dose. If not, we give hemopathic or controlled dosing (as described above). We have not done Nasonex because I don't think she'd let me. Saline drops are hard enough.

I ran it all by my pediatrician first and they were the ones pushing me actually. Still I gave them my 'plan' if you will and they were fine with it. They think I'm a little crazy for being so cautious but hey its my kid.

Suffers from dust, grass, mountain cedar.

Her eyes are almost always watery and her nose will get clear runny. Its bad when she starts to rub so often, so hard she turns red, if she's practically crying in tears or if she starts to get cranky, point to her nose and whine.

If she has an attack (with or without meds) she cheeks turn red, her skin gets bumpy and she can't breathe clearly. I wipe her face with a wet cloth and take her outside (if its clear calm day and its dust) or let her play in the bath (if its the outdoors that caused it).

Its a lifestyle to be sure.

ETA: by not breathing clearly I mean just snotty.

I did all that, thank you :) I think the cold and dry air also makes things worse for DD. She's been waking up every night past 2-3 weeks bc she is so congested, even the ped noticed dark circles under her eyes Chat Icon

DS was prescribed Singulair for allergy and mild asthma. I freaked when I read the side effects and made an appt. to go back to the specialist to go over the medications again. He is highly allergic to dust and mildly allergic to cats. Unfortunately we have a cat and 2 dogs with the dr. said should go Chat Icon I haven't made that decision yet.

I would like to try and rid my house of as much dust as possible before I medicate him, but that's just me.

I would like to try and rid my house of as much dust as possible before I medicate him, but that's just me.

this is what I have been trying to do. cover her bedding, dust the apt every day, vacuum at least 2x a week , I can go on and on and on, but I think DD's allergies have gotten worse since she started school in September , I'm sure they don't dust/clean there as much, plus she stays with my MIL when I work 2x a week , my MIL keeps a very clean house, but the house is old and I'm sure filters and other things have to be cleaned /replaced by now (she rents and the owner is not on top of certain things) anyway, I have been so hard to avoid giving DD meds (I hate taking meds myself, won't even take anything for a headache unless it's killing me) , but I have to be realistic, I think we might have to at this pointChat Icon I just made an appt with an allergist for Wed. So I guess we;ll see what he has to say.

It is very hard! I went for allergy testing the same day I took DS and my arms lit up like a Christmas tree. i was allergic to half of the 50 things they test for, including cats which I never realized and have had cats my whole life.

They do say that even if you get rid of an allergen (such as a cat, etc.) it can take up to 6 mo. for the effects to be completely be out of your house. They even recommend wiping down walls, baseboards, cabinets.
