UPDATED. Dr recommends Provera...
Ok, can you all tell me everything you know about Provera?
My doctor wants me to NOT TTC for 2 months and suggested putting me on Provera for 14 days, then off for 14 days four times (for two months) before we TTC again. This will allow time for my uterine lining to get "nice and thick" in her words and to have me ready to TTC again and regulate my periods (never were regular). She then said we can do testing and figure out what's up with my hormones and so on and see if I might need progesterone supplements. What do you all think of this? I haven't done any research on provera yet.
TIA.
UPDATED: Let me explain further and see if it makes any better sense. If not, I'll get a 2nd opinion. My periods are extremely irregular. I never go a month without getting one, but basically I'll have at least spotting for 3 out of the 4 weeks of the month. Usually spotting/light bleeding for two weeks, and then a regular period for the third week. She said my hormones are a bit out of balance and that I probably also have low progesterone. She said that I would be on Provera twice. I said 4 times above because I meant I'd be doing a 2 week cycle four times. So it would be: 1. ON provera for 2 weeks. 2. Off provera for two weeks. 3. On Provera for another two weeks 4. Off Provera for another two weeks. She said that this would help build up my endometrial lining so that I could TTC in two months and maybe not miscarry as I did this month. She also said as soon as I got pregnant again she would measure my progesterone and if it wasn't high enough she would put me on suppositories. Please let me know your thoughts on this. THANKS AGAIN!

Re: Dr recommends Provera...
I'm not sure I understand this - this means you would get your period 4 times in 2 months, I don't see how this would make your lining thick? Personally, I wouldn't want to be on provera that many times in such a short period, it doen't have very nice side effects. I suffered horrible mood swings every time I was on it.
If you are on provera you most likely won't ovulate and there is no way to test to see if you have progesterone problems if you are not ovulating. How irregular are your cycles?

Re: Dr recommends Provera...
The sole purpose of provera is to induce your period. I took it all the time since I do not ovulate on my own, I would take it in order to start another cycle. I would question your doctor as what they are suggesting makes no sense at all.

Re: UPDATED. Dr recommends Provera...
I know how fustrating it is to have to wait to TTC! But your doctor sounds like she is very proactive.
After reading the other posts thought, you may want to get a second opinion.

Thanks! The other posts were written prior to my update when I explained more, so I'm not sure...

Re: UPDATED. Dr recommends Provera...
The Provera thing still doesn't make sense to me especially if you get your period every month - you are not irregular if you are getting it every month. If she thinks your hormones are out of whack she should give you CD3 testing the next time AF comes. Then 7DPO she should test your progesterone - not the next time you get pregnant. Studies have shown that progesterone supplements have the greatest effect when taken right after ovulation - not after a BFP.
ETA: I think you should consider a second opinion - preferablaly from an RE.

Re: UPDATED. Dr recommends Provera...
if your cycles are that irregular you should be seeing an RE, in my opinion... taking provera that much over a two month period sounds like a way to camouflage the problem, not find out what it is.
best of luck to you.

Re: UPDATED. Dr recommends Provera...
I'm w/ SweetTooth on this. This doesn't make sense to me either. As someone with PCOS who NEVER gets their period on their own (I'm talking once every couple of years if I'm lucky) I have never been told to do anything like this. Provera once should shed your lining and you should be ready to start TTC, unless there's some other underlying problem. I would consult an RE and go for basic CD3 bloodwork at a minimum. It can't hurt and if all the levels come back within normal range, then you take it from there. I feel like your dr is going to have you wasting lots of time and (at least for me) provera is no picnic- I beg my dr. to put me on it for 5 or 7 days instead of 10 b/c I have an AWFUL AF that I dread each time I have to go on it. It lasts forever and is VERY heavy and I am VERY crampy (though I may be in the minority ). Good luck sweetie!!!
ETA: I just read this again- I didn't realie you're spotting every month - so you are shedding your lining every month then- I would totally agree w/ SweetTooth about the bloodwork and progesterone check. GL!!!

Re: UPDATED. Dr recommends Provera...
THANKS LADIES, TO ALL OF YOU! I am definitely going for a second opinion. I found a great reproductive endocrinologist and will see her in 4 weeks (that was the earliest she had and I'm still trying to get the HCG levels out of my system from my miscarriage anyway - apparently they are dropping very "slowly."
I truly appreciate all of your help and am definitely going to get a 2nd opinions. I'm so grateful for you girls.
