UPDATED NEW QUESTION: Juno: I know it's been posted a number of times but I have questions
I saw this last night. I thought it was okay. It felt like the new "My So Called Life" It really made me feel old (I'm 20-10) The way they spoke was like out of control. I used big words as a teen, but I felt this was some new-wave language. Did anyone else feel this way?
There is this show coming about called My secret life as a teenager or something like that.
Is teen preganancy now something all the rage? Between Britney's sister, the HS pregancny Pact and now this... what do you think?

I used to feel that way about Dawson's Creek, which is why I never got into that show.
I'm really out of the loop with teen-speak these days. But maybe they used such big words in Juno to emphasize that even "smart" kids make mistakes too. (totally guessing on that)

i don't think the way she spoke in the movie is truly reflective of today - they definitely exaggerated it a bit

Dawson's Creek is a perfect example of this... I hated the dialogue but still loved the show... which is the way I felt about Juno too!

I loved the dialogue but it was trying to hard to be edgy.

ditto
it was not written as normal teens would speak (the dawson's creek syndrome) -- i also thought it was great dialogue but not age appropriate for the characters that were speaking.

I think teenage pregnancy is sickeningly all the rage all of a sudden. I can't figure out why, though..

Honestly---I don't think its media or movies---I think the problem is that a lot of these girls don't have a big self-worth or esteem and they are just looking for it where they can. If a boy shows them attention, they feed off that--and then the inevitable happens. Thats when the "accidents" occur.
But I also think that some of these girls are sooooo craving acceptance and unconditional love from SOMEONE that they will create a life in hopes that it will be so great to play house with a baby...and then discover its not what they thought.
I think tonite premieres a new show on ABC Family---about a girl who gets pregnant as a teenager! But at least I think they are taking a more "its not all fun and games" approach.

I am so happy you posted this!
The dialogue in Juno really annoyed me. I watched it with a bunch of my students (HS Seniors) in an after school program and while a lot of them thought the movie was cute, they unanimously agreed that teenagers--at least in the NYC area, DO NOT speak like Juno. I felt a little bad for the thuggish kids watching, they were like "huh?" Not so much the vocabulary as the slang she used. We had a really great discussion about language and whether or not Juno was a "typical" teen.
I can not believe it won the Oscar for best screenplay. Who did it beat out again?
