UPDATED WITH INFO! Anyone know where I can get pre-made cake icing decorations?
The bakery said that the B-day cake that I want to have made would be very expensive. I brought in a photo of an Elmo cake that I found online. The girl at the bakery said that if I bring in my own decorations, they can work with them. I found these little Elmo faces at Party City but I did not like anything else that I saw that was pre-made. The girl at the bakery also said that some places sell pre-made sheets that are made of sugar and are an overlay for cakes. I want to see them in person before I buy. Anyone know where I can see some decorative objects to bring to the bakery? I saw a Ralph Rotten's ad that said they have "sugar and icing decorations" but would that only be for cupcakes? I'm open to seeing other Elmo cakes but I have scoured the internet and I fell in love with the one that they say would be so expensive.
These are the only Elmo things I liked but they are small so I would need to come up with a design around them. I think I have to go to the bakery when the cake decorator is in! I finally decided to get in touch with an old friend who makes custom cakes but I have heard she is very busy, so we'll see.
This is what I had asked about at the bakery (need either a 1/2 sheet or 3/4 sheet).
UPDATE: Benkerts can costumize the cake as I want it. The extra charge was not bad at all--$25 extra for the exact design I want on a 3/4 sheet cake. I know that the extra charge is almost as much as we've paid for a whole cake at Costco but I fell in love with this design and I really wanted a Benkerts cake this time.

ebay has a bunch too - for very good prices (so if they stink - you didn't blow a lot of money).

Benkerts is where we asked about this and it is where we hope to get the cake. The cake decorator was not in, though. The girl working there just thought that what I wanted would come out to some super high price. She could not even give me a ballpark figure but I got the feeling that it would be much more than double the price of a more plain cake.

I don't know, that cake doesn't look like it would be all that difficult/expensive to do. Perhaps b/c all of the design is done with the little star tip it would be labor intensive, but if you speak to the decorator and tell them that you want that design, and however they do it, will be fine with you, it will be alot less money? This way it gives them the option of using a different/quicker technique to draw the pictures you are looking for. Don't know if this is an option for you, but as a person who has decorated many cakes, that doesn't look that tough. If I could draw an elmo, I'd do it for you myself!

I was thinking the same thing! And even the star tip, while it takes a little longer than other methods, doesnt take so long for a professional decorator. I would go back when the decorator is there before you buy anything else.

Re: Anyone know where I can get pre-made cake icing decorations?
Thanks everyone. I think I have to ask again. The one in my example is one that someone did at home. I am sure that they can modify it if they have to at the bakery. I never did get a price and maybe it would not be too much of an increase anyway. I'll be in good hands with Benkerts, right? I think I will stop in again.
I told my dad I was going to Benkerts, thinking he probably never heard of it. Well, he worked in Lake Grove many years ago and his office got cakes there. Now he is so excited that he woke up in the middle of the night talking about Benkerts' cakes to my poor mom!!!! Such a cute dad .
