UPDATED with pic! my little feral "beastie" just made a HUGE gain!!

for those of you who know, i adopted a feral cat back in september. she's about 5 we think and was as wild as they come--i called her my beastie. over the past 10 months i've been training her and making her into a house cat the best i can.

well...3 days ago she did the most amazing thing---she sat on my lap and kneaded!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon i couldn't believe it!! this was a cat who hid under a couch for over a month and wouldn't let me touch her. she only lets me do it in the middle of the night when i get up Chat Icon but at least she lets me do it! she now CRIES to be held in the middle of the night and she purrs away and now is starting to cuddle.

i'm just so proud of my baby! she went from being a skinny, unwanted cat to a semi-affectionate house baby! i can't wait to see what she does next.Chat Icon Chat Icon i love this cat so much! i hope things don't change much when DS is born in the next few days. i am making it a priority to continue working with her AND taking care of my new baby--after all, she is my baby too!

ps...anyone have any idea why she likes to be held and affectionate at night as opposed to during the day?

UPDATED:
this is my Bella when she first realized her pet bed wasn't going to hurt her. when i first put her in it, she jumped out of it like it was on fire! this was when she was still pretty feral.

This is so great! .Chat Icon Chat Icon Congrats on the progress!!! Don't worry about the cat and the baby. I think the cat will eventually adjust. My mom always had cats, one was like yours at first and they never acted any different when we came along. Maybe she is finally adjusting to being inside. We took in two feral cats growing up, and one of them became my best buddy, and really softened up/became affectionate over time.

I don't know why she may prefer affection day or night though...hmmm.

Awwww that must be a great feeling!

I am AMAZED--I've heard that ferals have a VERY tough time becoming socialized--you should be really proud and humbled that she trusts you! Chat Icon

Wow, you did such an amazing job with her. You are wonderful for being so patient.

About the night thing, the only thing I can think of is that feral cats are usually nocturnal. I assume because they are afraid to come out when their is alot of stimuli.

Your kitty is probably more relaxed at night when there is less noise and action and that is why she is relaxed enough to look for affection.
