Upgrading to First Class (US Airways)

has anyone ever purchased coach and wanted to upgrade to first class?

If so, did you have to cancel your original reservation and rebook? With that, were you charged additional fees for the cancellation???

I'm going to Vegas in January, and want to upgrade my ticket...and they told me I have to pay $150 to cancel and rebook.

I have never upgraded to first class. but someone told me to do it the morning of your flight and it will be cheaper.....

Not sure if its true.

I've just done it at the airport gate right before the flight.

Last time American let me upgrade for $100.

I tried one time and was told that the tickets I bought where not upgradable. The only way I could do it was to cancel my tickets and purchase the full price ticket. I guess it depends if you got a deal or special when you first booked. I then tried again at the gate and was told the same thing. I would ask the airline how it works with the tickets that you bought.

If the person collecting tickets at the gate is a man, I force tears for a free upgrade. If it is a woman I negotiate her down to below $40 and then upgrade.
