Upper GI Series- Good Sam vs. Zwanger

Hi ladies....so we are starting dc on Nutramigen RTF per the ped today since the intake wasn't what it should be on the neocate....he is recommending an upper gi series and gave me a script to go to zwanger.
she also sees a pediatric GI who is affiliated with good sam who hasn't suggested this.
tomorrow i'm going to put a call out to the GI to discuss his thoughts.
has anyone had any experience with their LO getting this done at either place?
can anyone offer some insight? do i need to take the whole day off from work for this?
thanks in advance....just so nervous as to what to expect.

My DD had an upper GI at Good Sam. It was a very simple procedure and went very well.

Good Sam. They said they specialize in babies there. The dr there who did it was great.

They can't eat for 4 hrs prior so try to time it accordingly. And of course the dr is only there certain times. We went at 8 am. It was hard because dd ate every 3 hrs at the time. I had to basically hold her and give her a paci for an hour then we went over there and she slept in the car. The procedure itself wasnt bad. They had her drink a bottle of white chalky stuff while watching it go through. Our ped Gastro sent us for it because she spit up out if her nose ALOT. He had to rule out malrotation where the digestive track doesn't develop properly. It's something peopl can hav and neve know but it often presents as reflux in babies. My dd didnt have any issues and she outgrew the spitting up out of her nose. She is still on formula for milk protein allergy.

Good luck!!

Same here. I was pleased with the whole process and the pediatric radiologist explained things very well.

Re: Upper GI Series- Good Sam vs. Zwanger

I had it done with my DD but in LIJ. I may be in the minority here but my husband took her and said it was awful. The taped her head and hands to a board so she couldn't move and then they made her drink the white liquid while they watched and she screamed her head off. At the end nothing was wrong which was a relief. It was my first child so I was more worried than now with my second. My DS who is 2 months has the same issues and the first thing the dr. recommended was an upper GI series without even trying other less invasive suggestions like formula, meds, antacid etc. I refused it and tried other remedies which have worked for us. Glad we didn't do it. Not saying this is the case with anyone else and maybe your LO has more symptoms than mine but I told the dr. I would never do it again UNLESS I felt there was no other option. Good luck and I hope it goes well for you as I see it went for others. Maybe I went to the wrong hospital. Chat Icon
