upper lip laser hair removal - i have a question about shaving

So I bought a groupon for laser hair removal and am getting my upper lip done.

I just called to make an apptmt and they said I need to shave my upper lip beforehand (then they said they could do it there for me).

I have NEVER EVER shaved my upper lip. I heard it was a big "no no." Now I'm scared.

I always heard shaving with a razor can make you get new hair growth in places that had no hair before.
TMI Alert: given what happened to my upper bikini area I'd say this is true.

What now? Is this the norm?

Don't do it! Use electrolysis instead.

They will laser the entire area that you shaved so as long as the laser works you are not going to get more hair. If you leave the hair there, the treatment will hurt more. If you wax or pluck, you might remove the hair too deeply and then they won't get it with the laser. I think shaving or leaving the hair grown in are the only options but if you leave the hair grown in a.) you have to be comfortable with that for a few days before and b.) it will hurt more.

I've had several areas lasered and the instructions are always to shave before coming. I have had fabulous results with my areas, definitely not more hair growth! I do recommend a topical cream for the lip though because that seems to be the worst one, at least for me it was!

My girl never shaved my upper lip before lasering, only my sideburns. I used that little personal groomer on my upper lip before my sessions. Even if they shave it the hair will be almost totally gone when the sessions are over Its WELL worth the money!!
