upset..I HATE the infant car seat
Don't know if anyone has this issue but DS is nearly five months old and weights close to 17 pounds! I have been struggling with his car seat, even to walk out with it to the car because it is so heavy. Today, I was in the drug store and was carrying him in the car seat (just ran in for formula) and it threw my back out, badly.... I somehow managed to get to the car but almsot had to ask someone to bring him for me, I am so upset about it. I feel like I can't take care of him properly.

Just leave it in it's base in the car and put your DC in and out of it while it's still in the car. No need to carry the baby IN the carseat if he's too heavy for it.

I put Julia in a larger carseat by 5 months cause I couldn't carry it anymore either, I have a feeling I'm going to have to do the same with DS down the road.

Definitely leave it in the car and take him in and out. Once he's older and in the convertible, you would be doing that anyway.

I hated my carseat from almost DAY ONE!
I think this is one of my biggest regrets as far as registering goes. I LOVEd my stroller/carseat. Loved the look the colors.
But once my DS was in it...O M G. The thing was way tooo heavy. I just didn't think at all. When i tried it out in the store i was like...Hmmm not bad, heavy but not bad. NEVER EVER thining what anotherr 15 lbs was going to be like.
I couldn't wait to get rid of it.

I have a snap&go, so I just pop the car seat in the stroller frame & go.....but at this point I would leave the car seat in the car and just take the baby.....hope your back feels better!

I know how you feel. Its awkward to carry it. I do not carry it unless I really have to. I use the Snap N Go a lot. I also keep Bjorn carrier with me but I do not use that as much as the Snap N Go.

Unless DD is asleep, I take her in and out of the carseat, and leave the seat itself in the car as suggested.
That's been going on for a while now. But if she is asleep, I leave her in it and take the chole car seat out.

i LOVED my carrier and still miss it! i ALWAYS used the snap and go and NEVER carried the carrier. i found it so easy this way. why carry it if you can just push? it'll make your life so much easier.

I did this as well when Gavin was 4 months or so, they are way too heavy at that point... we just put the convertible carseats in the cars yest...byebye infant carrier a lil sad in a way.

I used the Snap n Go...I loved it!!!
Hayley was a big girl (so the seat was very heavy!!) so if I didn't have my Snap n Go I would put her seat in a shopping cart in the store.

I have the same issues. I don't use the handle at all. I carry it with both hands, one ehind the head and one at the feet to go from house to car.

I would just switch to the rear-facing convertible seat at this point. No sense in hurting your back, and you're getting close to the weight limit anyway.

DS was over 18lbs at 4 months and I have injured my back 2x since his birth so I feel your pain.
If I am just running in to the store and dont feel like using a stroller, I take him out of the carrier and just hold him. If I am going to walk around in a store I always use the snap and go. I never hold him by the carrier's handle. I carry the carseat in my arms with one arm under the leg portion and one under the head section to evenly distribute the weight.
The infant car seat is great but horrible at the same time, especially if you have a larger child!

There is no rule that says you *have* to take it out of the car. Leave it in the car and take the baby out of the seat and into the stroller/shopping cart.

I agree with above posts - leave the seat in the car and take DC in and out...that's what I do now.
I had the snap and go, but it got to be too difficult just to lift the seat in and out of the car - so I just take DD now...and we'll probably switch to the convertible soon...
