Re: upstate girls
Purchase is a beautiful area
Its about 15-20 minutes from me.. so I'd say maybe 45-hour from da Bronx?
And I love that everyone thinks Westchester is Upstate.. we are soooo not upstate at all

Re: upstate girls
Thanks Flee, my husband has to go and take another postal exam but he wasn't sure if it was worth it because of the commute.

I could try to map it for you to be sure .. if he drove (non rush hour) it might not be even close to an hour
Good Luck to your hubby, b/t/w!

Re: upstate girls
Tania, I have driven from my school (by the stadium) to Purchase (where DH teaches) in about 35 minutes during rush hour. It's not too far at all, depending on traffic.
I should clarify that I am a bit of a speed demon sometimes. But it still is not far.

Tracy, I stand corrected! (I totally screwed up in my thought process, I realize you can take 95 all the way up to Purchase, right?)
As for Metro North, I"m not sure what train station would be closeby Purchase , Tania - I think maybe Portchester or Rye, but that's still quite a drive to Purchase

So there is no actual train station in purchase? That's not good then, I guess he will have to wait to see if something opens in here then.

He would have to take the train to White Plains and then a bus. DH did that for a while when he lived in Manhattan. Depending on where in Purchase, it might be doable. There is also a station in Rye, which is close too.

Re: upstate girls
DH says that buses go from the White Plains station to Purchase College. He thinks the 12 goes there. The bus terminal is across the street from the train.
