URGENT Blood Shortage
Just to let you know.... as of today, the LI Blood Center has only 2 days worth of blood for most blood types.
I know it requires energy and effort, but it's a small price to pay for saving someone's life.
Please Donate.

I don't as I am very anemic 
I do always try to volunteer in other ways to help, as my grandmother has a condition that requires her to get blood transfusions about twice a year.
It is so important to donate

I wouldn't say I do a on a regular basis, but I've done a few times. I signed up to do it over the summer, but I found out I was pg a few days before the drive.

It is so important to donate
that happened to me when i went last time.. my hemoglobin and hematocrit levels were too low  But, i don't think i'm anemic, so i'm going to eat tons of greens the night before to help raise those levels (I'm donating on the tuesday that i get back)

I never had- I am not good with blood- I have only gotten blood taken from me on 2 occasions- I freak out
I used to not weigh enough in HS when they would come to school- but I am sure that's not true anymore
I wish I could- my dad is one of there favorite donors- he is a univeral donor- o negative I think- but he moved

I have Thallasemia (a form of blood anemia) and I am unable to donate blood. Plus I have freakishly low blood pressure...so I am out.

I donated once, but am ashamed to say that it was a very long time ago and I haven't since. I would like to.
Very stupid question: How can you find out what blood type you are? Does everyone's doctor usually know this from routine tests or do you have to ask for it to be tested?

I used to donate pretty often, however due to my active lifestyle, history of fainting and low blood sugar, I don't anymore.

I used to donate, even though I have the biggest most irrational fear of needles AND the worst veins known to man.
Last time was a few years ago and the guy finally, found a vein, blew it, and told me do not bother coming back! 
He said, I know you mean well but you just don't have the veins for it.
Another time, it came out so slow they couldn't fill the bag in the alotted time and had to ditch it. My blood is like syrup.
I wish I could too, I have B+ which I think is less common.

This is a big thing for me. I give a few times a year but lately my numbers have been just too low..by one or two pts. part of my disease.
Very frustrating.
Yesterday I gave a pint of blood for myself since I have an upcoming surgery. I have to give one more next week. I found out that if they don't use my blood (most likely they won't) for me, they throw it away!
Throw it away!!!!!!
I'm so mad.

I really should. I have no good excuse, except that I am so squeamish and bad with needles that I'm afraid I will pass out. I think i'm going to make a belated new years resolution to start donating blood.

oh.. i pass out half of the times that i donate 
i'm getting better at it, and haven't really passed out much in the last year or so... i just chug a big thing of apple juice right before i donate, and i let them know that i have a tendency to pass out, so they make adjustments (lay me down more and watch me closer).
the 1st time it happened though, i thought i had died... and i must've said that out loud, because the nurse assured me that i was alive (though, i could hear her laughing at me )

Yes I do, but they won't let me right now. Apparently when I went to Costa Rica, we were in some Malaria risk areas and I have to wait a year before donating again. So in June I can go back to it. I feel so bad when I hear they are having a shortage and I can't donate. They were very adamant that I wait though- I don't want to risk someone getting even sicker because of my blood

they're REALLY strict about their guidlines.. even when there is a severe shortage. when i went 2 months ago, my H&H level was .3 (POINT 3) below the minimum, and they wouldn't let me. it stinks.... but i guess i understand
