Urgent! Delestrogen Injection.
Hi all,
I just gave my wife her first Delestrogen injection and there was some bleeding from the injection site after I had withdrawn the needle. We're not sure what to do. According to the instructions if there was any bleeding we need to pick another injection site and give her another injection. Why would we have to do a 2nd injection because of bleeding? We are concerned about doing the 2nd injection since this might double her dosage. Please advise. Thank you!

If all the meds went in and the syringe was empty I think you are ok. I always had some bleeding when my husband took out the needle. As long as you got all the medicine into her you are ok. I took an alcohol swab and just rubbed it a little.

Re: Urgent! Delestrogen Injection.
If you saw blood coming out into the syringe, it means that you punctured a vain/artery. The delestrogen is suppossed to be an intramuscular injection. But of course I wouldn't repeat the injection unless I spoke to my RE.

Re: Urgent! Delestrogen Injection.
when you do an IM injection if you draw back at the beginning of the inject and see blood come back into the syringe, that is when you have to remove the needle and find a new spot and reinject. however if you already did the whole in inject, and its bleeding, thats not a big deal. it will prob happen almost every time. you dont have to do another inject. good luck!!

Re: Urgent! Delestrogen Injection.
Does anyone know why you have to hold the skin taut for an IM injection and pinch the skin for a subcutaneous injection? Thank you.

You have to hold the skin taut for an IM injection to make sure the needle gets into the muscle (so it can be absorbed), and you have to pinch for Sub-Q so the needle stays in the layers of skin. Some medicines are harder to absorb, or some people can be poor responders to Sub-Q shots, that is why it's important to get the IM ones into the muscle, it absorbs better. HTH

Re: Urgent! Delestrogen Injection.
We don't pull my skin taught. My DH literally just darts it in and the needle, which is about 2.5-3" long goes in half way. I don't have much flesh on my rear and that's what he was advised to do. This is working well for us and it doesn't even hurt.
