Urine Test freak out
This is my first pregnancy and I am only about 4 weeks along so I haven't even been to my OB yet.
I recently had my first UTI so my doctor had me stop in to give a urine yesterday to follow up with that. They called me back today to tell me that there were traces of blood and protein in my urine and that this could be due to the pregnancy and for me to address it when I see my OB on the 13th.
Now I'm worrying that obviously I might be starting to miscarry (I don't have visible blood) or that now I'm going to continue getting UTIs during my pregnancy and that could cause harm.
Should I be worried?

Urine Test freak out
I have definitely had that before and all throughout my pregnancy I always have a trace of sugar/protein...something lol.
I wouldn't really worry too much.

Urine Test freak out
Both could EASILY be from the UTI. But I would mention it anyway.

Re: Urine Test freak out
Why would they freak you out like that? I guess better safe than sorry but you can get blood and proteins in the urine from a UTI and kidney infection.

Re: Urine Test freak out
The only time I've ever had 'traces of blood' in my urine that was not visible to the naked eye was when I had a UTI (and was not pregnant). It still freaked me out to hear, but I got on meds and drank a lot of cranberry juice and it was gone FAST. Anytime I've ever miscarried, I SAW blood. Bright red and enough that there's no way you're missing that. So if I had to bet, I'd say that traces of blood that is not visible to you is most definitely from the UTI. And it's a shame that they freaked you out by even saying that.

Urine Test freak out
My appointment is on the 13th. Do you think I'll be safe having no antibiotic until then or should I call my OB and let them know what the doctor said before I attend next Monday?

The Dr didn't offer you anything for the UTI?? If it were me, I'd probably call the OB in that case and just ask if there was anything I should be taking for this that is safe for pregnancy.
That beginning stage of WAITING for first appointment definitely sucks. In the meantime, try to get your hands on some cranberry. I've only ever had a UTI once in my life and it worked wonders for me.

Urine Test freak out
I just had my first one last month so now I'm thinking I'm going to turn into one of those people who are prone to them.

Did they do a culture? If it is they will likely give anti biotics which will clear it up

A miscarriage wouldn't cause blood in your urine--one is your vagina, one is your urethra.

Exactly. I've had two UTI's with visible blood in my urine. It's very common for a UTI to make you pee out some blood. And if you were miscarrying, the blood would be coming from your uterine lining through your cervix and out your vagina, not through your urethra.
