Urologist Needed! Circumcision needs to be re-done..
I need a recommendation for a urologist in suffolk county. DS needs to get his circumcision re-done(he is 16 months). There is no medical reason to get it re-done- it just looks horrible and you can't even tell that he is circumcised. I would like to get it done as soon as possible being that DC#2 is arriving next month. If your DS had this re-done, what is the procedure and recovery? Do I have to go to the hospital?

Re: Urologist Needed! Circumcision needs to be re-done..
We had DS recirc'd when he was 13 months old. It was the BEST thing we ever did for him. There also wasn't a medical reason as to why, but there was a LOT of extra skin and it kept reattaching.
We used Dr. Jordan Gitlin. He has an office in Commack, but you have to call the main office in Lake Success: 516-466-6953. Website: www.pedsurology.com He was AWESOME!
The surgery was at an ambulatory center at the hospital and it was harder on me than on DS. By mid afternoon, you would've NEVER known he had surgery. It was the day before Thanksgiving and I was nervous it would ruin the holiday, but he was happy go lucky and in no pain at all the entire weekend! They do give you a Rx for Tylenol with codiene, but we didn't even use it. He was fine.
FM me if you want more info. or just need support!
ETA: if you're having another boy, definitely have an urologist circumcise your son rather than the OB. You'll be experiencing the SAME issue otherwise. It's becoming more and more common that they don't take off enough skin.

i think that we just need to do our homework ... i trusted my OB, never asked any questions. Was he confident? Would be suggest another in the practice to do it? I never asked the opinion of other women in the practice (there are a lot of LIF posters who also go to that practice) ... I should have.
Do not be afraid to do it ... just do your homework. I should have known when my OB said to me "are you sure you want to do this? Cause you know once its gone, I can't put it back"
DS' is OK but I have a feeling it could have been better.

I will be honest this was one of my biggest reasons for not circumcising.
I hope it works out for your DS

Re: Urologist Needed! Circumcision needs to be re-done..
I wouldn't put my DS under general anesthesia at such a young age if the reason is purely cosmetic. DS circumcision was also messed up bc my OB left too much skin, but he hasn't had any issues with it so I am going to leave it alone. His ped actually gasped when I suggested redoing it.

I'm going to do it again- I want it to look right and I don't want to have to keep pulling the skin back to clean him.It should have been done right the first time...........I have heard some doctors are able to do it in their office if they just have to "snip" a little off.

I don't blame you. Poor guy. For future reference, if you have any more boys, you can request that the staff pediatrician do the circ instead of your OB. The ped on staff did the circs for both of my boys and they're both perfect!

I used Dr. Gitlin as well for my daughter (she had a fused vagina) and he was amazing. I felt very comfortable with him and he took extra care with my little girl.

Stony brook pediatric urologist. Dr wasnik
We went to Dr. Wasnik because my OB erred on the side of caution and didn't snip DS#1 becuase he felt he had hypospeadeas.
Dr. Wasnik was awesome!!!!
Fast forward to seeing Dr. Wasnik, yes he had it but very mild. We could've had him circumsized but it would've been purely asthetic. Dr. Wasnik said he would do it but that if DS was his child he would leave it alone. We did leave it alone. I appreciated his candid advice.
Getting him circumsized at 16 months will more than likely require general anesthesia, not just snipping in the office. I asked Dr. Wasnik about this because my main concern was putting DS under anesthesia since I had issues with it. He said that he would go under general anethesia. Just ask when you go see the Dr. but I'm almost 100% sure they have to.

Re: Urologist Needed! Circumcision needs to be re-done..
I went to a fantastic Pediatric Urologist recommended by the girls on here. His name is Dr. Lane Palmer and he's in Lake Success. We went there bc DS's circumcision reattached and he was fantastic in dealing with our son. I highly recommend him 516.466.6953.

Honestly was this really needed? I'm sure she feels bad enough. Plenty of us have no problems with our sons circumcisions, but we aren't posting it because there is no need to. Dr. Jordan Gitlin is wonderful! Good luck to your little guy

Dr. Gitlin is great, as is Dr Palmer who is also in the Lake Success office.. I have seen both of them. My son has hypospaedia.. he isn't circ'd but was given the green light at 18 months to be cir'd. Dr. Gitlin said at this point it was basically cosmetic but he'd have to be put under gen'l- so we aren't doing it as we don't have a religious reason for doing so and I wouldn't give my daughter a nose job at 18 months, so why give my DS a circ at 18 months...
I'm sure not many would agree with my reasoning..
