Using a Pack N' Play as a crib

I guess this question is more for BTDT moms but maybe there are a few first timers who are having the same issue as we are so any help will be appreciated!
We're planning to move to a bigger place when the baby will be around 3 months old, which is when our lease expires therefore we're not planning on assembling a crib before then. I was thinking of purchasing this Pack N' Play and use it as a crib for the three months Linky
Is anyone using this or any other kind of crib alternative and can offer their insight? I read you have to still get the mattress but I don't really know which one will fit the bassinet...
Also, the bumpers are plush do you think that could be a problem?

I've known people who did this.

Our apt is small and we are in the process of looking for a house. But like you, our lease doesn't expire on the apt until 3 mos after the baby will be born.

We plan on getting a small bassinet, something like this:

lINK

to hold us over until we get into a bigger place and have room for a crib.

too funny, DH and I were just talking about this! one of his friends (father of 3) suggested it to us. My only worry about using a pack n play instead of a crib or bassinet is making sure the LO has good back support.

Crashing, but BTDT...

We used the PnP in our room for DD to sleep in for the first 5 months. She mostly napped in the swing too so she didn't really use the crib all that often until 5 months when we transitioned her from our room to the crib at night.

Did you get a mattress for the PNP?

You can totally use the PNP for the baby to sleep in. As long as the baby is below the weight limit, there should be no issue at all.
DD slept in it while we did CIO with DS, and at this point she was already around 6 months.

They didn't really like it when they were newborns for some reason. They prefrerred the swings and the bouncy seats.

DS slept in a PNP in our room for the first three months and then we transitioned him to the crib in his room, we will be doing the same when baby #2 arrives.

We didn't buy a special mattress, just used the one that came with the PNP and covered it with a receiving blanket - I had large ones that I could tuck under the mattress. I wouldn't use any bumpers, just the mesh walls of the PNP would be fine.

Re: Using a Pack N' Play as a crib

We've always used the Bassinet part of the Pack n' Play for the first 2 months with the boys and will be using it with this baby. We were past the weight limit by 8 weeks old. (We didn't know it at the time)

But, the specific one you have here is a Travel Lite one, if I'm not mistaken, this one imparticular is a lot smaller than the regular Pack n' Play so I don't know if it would last as long. Just a thought in case you didn't know. Chat Icon

I used this:

with DS for the first 3 months. Then from 3 months to 7 months he was in bed with us. And at 7 months I moved him into his crib.

We had a crib and a pack n play. DS actually slept in my room in the pack n play until he was a little over 1. Once he was done with the infant part, i put blankets under the sheets to cushion it and make it more comfortable.

Thanks girls this is really helpful!!!
From what I understand there's no need to buy a mattress, baby should be fine sleeping in the Pack N' Play as is.

Same here... except that it was almost a year lol

We had DD in the bassinet part, when she maxed out on the weight limit, we just took out the bassinet attachment and she slept in the regular PNP. I didn't get the mattress- they're not considered safe (similar to how car seats are- the theory is that anything added after the final manufactured product compromises the safety of it). She was fine on the mattress pad that came with it. No worries about back support- the crib mattress should be that firm anyway.
