using pack and play for bassinet

Dh and I were hoping to use the pack and play that we registered for as a bassinet for baby to sleep in at first. Is this safe to do? Or do I need an actual bassinet?
We registered for the Graco Devon Pack and Play.

Re: using pack and play for bassinet

I'm planning on doing the same and from everything I've heard this is fine and a lot of people do it. But thank you for the post because I could always use more insight!

We used it in our bedroom the first two weeks before we moved her to the crib. She still sleeps in the one at grandmas at two months.

Re: using pack and play for bassinet

We used it for the first four months in our room - absolutely no problems!

We felt that the bassinet would be a waste of money since they outgrow it so fast. It definitely would have been for us - DD was in our room until 6 months due to health issues and the bassinet would not have made it that long Chat Icon

I had actually picked up a cheap one on clearance to keep in our room, while the one that we registered for stayed in the den. The one that we had in our room is now at grandma's house...

Re: using pack and play for bassinet

We were planning on using it in our room, but my mom got me a bassinett for my shower, so we ended up not using it.

I have it in my living room and I LOVE the changing table part, I haven't even used my real one yet. But DS (as of right now and he is only 17 days old, so this could change) doesn't really like the bassinett part, I kind of think that is because he doesn't like sleeping on flat, so he usually naps in the bouncy.
