UUGGGH.. SIL's

My SIL always has to be the center of attention. Just a few examples- The weekend of my bridal shower she announced she bought a house, The day of my wedding she announced she was PG (she was ONLY 4 weeks), and this weekend (monday was my level II to find out the sex) she announced she is PG again (she is only 5 weeks).
I keep trying to look at the positive side (my son will have cousins the same age)...but I can't help but be angry she couldn't just wait a day or two in all instances. I could also qualify by saying there are many, many more inconsiderate things she has done!

That $ucks. I feel bad for people like that. Clearly your SIL feels that her life and accomplishments are not so great on their own. So she needs to steal your thunder. Just be glad you're not like that Chat Icon

Re: UUGGGH.. SIL's

My SIL is the same way! She's 10 years older than DH and I....when she found out we were engaged she freaked, gave her boyfriend an ultimatum and then all of a sudden she was engaged too and got married within 2 months of us... THEN at Christmas we announced we were PG and she got insanely jealous and by March she was PG too...now she is due in November...EVERY time we have big news within a month or two she has the same big news...her sister, my other SIL, says that it's because it's hard for her to see her little brother do everything before her...but she's 43 and we're 33/34!! It's not like we're kids...

Re: UUGGGH.. SIL's

I'm going through similar feelings with my own sister right now. She just told me on monday that she is 12 weeks pregnant. She waited until she was out of her first trimester to tell everyone.

I feel like I'm being selfish. She's starting to show a bit already because she's very thin (and I'm very not) and so when I have my shower, which I think will be before the end of this month, everyone is going to be asking her and I feel like she'll just get all the attention. Everything has always been about my sister. I've always felt like I was left out to the side. I was really hoping that my child would get almost a year or so to be the "spotlight" grandchild before any others were born, and now hers will be born when my baby is only 4.5 months old. Not to mention that my parents live in Roknonkoma, I live in Levittown, she lives in Rocky Point, and even though we're both the same distance from thier house they are always going over there visiting her and I never see my parents unless I take the trip out there. I know my grandchild will barely get to see my parents, and it will be entirely different with her child.

It just hurts a lot and I'm happy for her, they've been trying for a while, but I really wish it hadn't happened just yet. I feel so selfish for feeling this way.

Re: UUGGGH.. SIL's

Wow Im going through the same thing with my sister. When I thought I was PG she acted very cold. I have aked her a few times about how she felt when she was first PG and her responce to "WHY". Then when I became PG She acted so cold. Never called to see how I was, Never wanted to know about the Dr appointments. And then woulnd't ya know she told me she was PG 6 weeks after I told everyone. The thing is, is that the whole family saw how she treated me. I was so upset, but now I feel better. My parents know how I feel and they understand. And on the bright side My Baby get a cousin the same age, something I never had. But it still hurts.

Re: UUGGGH.. SIL's

It's just hard for me. My fiance and I weren't married yet when we concieved. It wasn't a planned pregnancy, but something we wanted to do in the future anyway, so we were so excited. We planned a quick wedding (got married at 26 weeks) and now the baby is due october 9th. everyone made it like my wedding was such an inconvinience. my parents called me the night before the wedding and said i couldn't take my pics there before the church with the bridesmaids in the morning because it was an inconvinience for them to have people over. my sister was my MOH and literally did nothing for me. my husband's niece and some of my usbands friends who are now my friends also took me out for a bachelorette thing to get my nails done and for lunch, my sisters were invited but they said they didn't want to go. and now i feel like it's starting all over again with my baby. everyone bent over backwards for my sister's wedding, including myself, and i feel like they are all going to bend over backwards for my sisters baby also, meanwhile they've been such a little part of my pregnancy.

my sister has been married sicne 2000 so everyone has just been WAITING for her to get pregnant. when i told them the news, they were mostly shocked, mildly excited, and when she told them the news sunday night they were flipping out, so happy. my mom called me all excited yesterday to hear if i heard already adn she's just so excited and happy, and meanwhile i've been pregnant for 8 months and just feel like she never acted that way about my baby.

i am so happy for my sister, i know she's wanted a baby and they were trying for a while and getting very discouraged that it wasn't happening, i just feel so selfish that i'm upset about it. i am excited that our babys will be close in age, i just wish it hadn't happened so close though to mine because I really want everyone to be happy for me and my husband, and not just for her.

god, i am so sorry for the long posts. once the topic was brought up i just started thinking about how much it has been bothering me.

Re: UUGGGH.. SIL's

I too can jump on this bandwagon...

I am due on 9/5; my sister is due on 9/10 (with her second)!!

I felt very upset at first that my baby wasn't going to be the "spotlight" baby (as someone said) at all...not even for one week most likely. I felt like I couldn't have my own pregnancy, or my own moment in the sun. Now, I'm really excited for my new niece or nephew and think it's pretty cool that our children will be so close in age. However, I'm still hoping that she has her baby this month and I'll be in September!

My SIL is also pregnant with her 2nd. She's due on February 15. We did not find out the gender, but she is going to. Honestly, I am concerned about her stealing our thunder because my inlaws have 3 sons and 5 grandsons--no girls. Her amnio is scheduled for 9/2 and I'm afraid that hers will be a girl and I'll have a boy like the next day and no one will really care (except me and DH of course; we'd be thrilled either way).

Anyway, sorry for the long post, but I feel your pain ladies and thanks for letting me vent!!
