In san fran we stayed at the Hyatt at fishermans warf. No complaints. Although im sure you could get a cheaper hotel. When we were there we didn't get a car. It was fine. ALSO to park the car at the hotel was 26.00 a night and WE WERE GUESTS. I would suggest taking the Greyhound tour. Its the double decker Red bus and it takes you around the city.
For Vegas IMO any of the name hotels are fine. There is so much to do in vegas that really all you do is sleep in the room for like 4 hurs and get up and go I have been to Vegas A LOT! We use to stay at Harrahs cause it was cheap or free (since we play in Atlantic City) We stayed at the venetian which was my favorite hotel. It was just alright. Mandalay bay is very young.
When we went for our Honeymoon we stayed at the RIO we loved it. My favorite hotel we stayed at in Vegas. The only bad thing is it's off the strip BUT they had a bus to take you to harrahs and back (since they are owned by the same company) It's also by the Palms.

Don't know about Vegas, but we went to San Francisco at the beginning of our HM. We actually stayed across the bay at the Inn Above Tide . This place was awesome!! Your balcony overlooks the San Francisco skyline. There is a ferry just outside the hotel that runs frequently to San Fran and it takes about 20 minutes to get there. If you are looking to relax this is the place to go!! Have fun wherever you decide to go
