Vacation advice NEEDED!!!

I am looking for your advice please....

DH will be turning 30 in November....I would LOVE to surprise him with a long Carribean weekend getaway. Here's the dilemma part - I will be a first time Mom come August - and the baby will be 3 months old at the time I would like to go.....

I have saved the $, I have solid babysitters that I trust immensely....I would get travel insurance....etc.

Would you book it? Would you do it??

I am unsure if I am being unrealistic... Will it be too difficult to leave my baby?

Please offer me your advice...

TIA

Re: Vacation advice NEEDED!!!

For me, 3 months after having both DD's would've been too soon to leave them at home for a vacation. We went to Mexico when our first DD was 9 months old and I couldnt believe how hard it was!!!! Granted we stayed a week but I was ready to leave after 3 days, I missed her so much!!!

For my second DD, she had a milk allergy and some reflux, which was all new to us, we didnt get settled really until around 4 months, after trying different formulas, finally reflux meds, etc. etc. Basically, you just never know how things are going to go so I would wait it out a bit. I think as a first time mom, or any time mom for that matter, it takes some time to 'figure things out", get into a routine etc.

How about you plan it for a few months after the trip, but give him the itinerary on his birthday?

Re: Vacation advice NEEDED!!!

whether or not you plan to BF your baby plays a huge role on your being away for that amount of time.

other than that, at 3months, it will be nice to have a little break, while baby is with other loved ones that will enjoy that time with the baby!

good luck on your decision! Chat Icon

For me ~ I am not sure if I would have been able to leave my son being so young. I was in the hospital and away from my son for a week and I was a mess ~ good luck in your decision. If you decide to go it will be a great getaway weekend!!! Chat Icon

I could not have left my children that young, besides I was bfing. I think its a personal decision, but you might want to wait until you have the baby before you decide. You don't really know how you will feel until you have your baby.

I don't see anything wrong with it if you decide to go.

Re: Vacation advice NEEDED!!!

I could not have done a week away when he was 3 months...it would have been too hard for me although I know he would have been in good hands..I just know myself and would have desperately wanted to get home after 4 days.

A long weekend I would do. But a week away would prob be when he got a bit older, closer to a year maybe...

edited to add that I see nothing wrong with it if you can handle it!! The baby will be fine, its YOUR comfort level that is most important Chat Icon

Re: Vacation advice NEEDED!!!

Only you will be able to make the decision whether or not you can leave your baby at 3 months. Some moms will be ok leaving them at 3 days old, others, like me Chat Icon didn't leave DD til she was 16 months and that was just for an overnight Chat Icon

So it's really hard to say how YOU will be feeling at the time.

I was BFing and DD never took a bottle, so it was impossible for me to leave her anyway.

But you really have to see how you feel at the time. Booking in advance might be taking a bit of a risk, IMO, just because you might not know how you'd feel when the time comes.

Sounds like a GREAT trip though!!! Chat Icon

I think the Carribean is to far to be away at that age. I wouldn't want to get on a plane and have to worry if I need to return dealing with trying to get a flight back. I would consider a drivable vacation.

I don't wouldn't of gone away when my son was 3 months but I did just return to work part time and that was a big adjustment.

Re: Vacation advice NEEDED!!!

Maybe you should book something within driving distance if you are uncomfortable. This way if anything did happen you could get in a car insted of waiting for a plane.

Maybe try leaving him with the sitter overnight when he's about 6-8 weeks old as a test.

Maybe you can save a few more $$ up and go away for his 31st birthday.

Can you cancel the trip if you decide its too hard? If so, then book it.

Re: Vacation advice NEEDED!!!

I would have KILLED for a weekend away when my boys were 3 months BUT I would definitely make it someplace driveable-out East, Westchester, CT etc. Also I think I may have slept the whole weekend so make sure it will be a relaxing vacation
