If they really cared about protecting kids they'd start by doing a GD something, anything, about all the school shootings. Kids can be shot in a movie theater, but they can't catch a virus there. The government will lay down its life to make sure they're safe from coronavirus, just not things like bullets.

Vaccines mandated for kids now? almost
Hopefully the city keeps their dumb mandate and it doesnt spill over here on LI. Just took my youngest to their well visit. Only got the flu shot and pediatrician did not push for a covid shot. I was ready to tell him to go F himself i he did.
I dont plan on getting one unless i am forced like city people are.

I really don’t understand how these mandates for kids can be legal when this vaccine isn’t stopping you from getting covid or from spreading it. What is the legal justification??? in real life I am starting to see fully vaccinated kids in the 12-15 age group getting sick with covid. It’s been 6 months now since it was approved for that group. I was hoping it wouldn’t wear off the same for them but it’s becoming clear Now it does. Good thing they just approved the booster for ages 16-17, I guess 12-15 will be next. I read they are worried about a booster in that age group because of the myocarditis. But I’m sure soon they will have no problem mandating it. Hopefully everyone fights back!!!! There is NO logic to this! Think about what you are writing! A kid doesn’t need a shot to sit in school all day but if they want to stay for orchestra fully masked they have to be vaccinated? Why?

My school currently has three active COVID cases and another pending results...all fully vaccinated, though they did not spread it to each other, they they got it outside of school. Like I've always said, i am very pro vaccine for myself and my own family but why in the world this is mandated is beyond me. The governor is having a press conference today where she is making announcements on new measures to stop the latest spike. To be honest, I'm all for reinstating a mask mandate and I also believe 10 day quarantines should be reinstated for vaccinated individuals. But for the love of God I hope she isn't imposing statewide vaccine mandates.

I don't think they can mandate it yet for 12-16 or 18 since it's not FDA approved yet (they can do what DeBlasio did but, they can't mandate it for schools yet).
I do think the vaccine has helped a bit with the spread and severity but it's not helping the spread - look at Vermont, it's one of the most highly vaccinated states and it has the largest number of cases per 100k (not that there are a ton of people in VT but still it's similar to the case in Israel).
It will continue to spread. It looks like it's getting weaker though. We need to focus on protecting the vulnerable at this point, not the kids.

Yeah that was the mandate before for ages 12 and up. To participate in school sponsored sports and clubs, they had to be vaccinated. So this is no different, other than the aftercare portion I guess?

Yes and yes! The quarantine rules at this point are totally nonsensical! I have a friend (fully vaccinated) that recently tested positive. Two kids, one elementary and one middle school. The younger one hasn’t been vaccinated yet so they were home quarantined, the middle schooler fully vaccinated but 6 months ago now went to school, sports, all of it! No quarantine necessary for fully vaccinated! Guess who now has covid after spreading it all around? And guess who doesn’t, the unvaccinated sibling that is still in quarantine ??????? How people don’t see how down right stupid these rules and mandates are and are blindly following along is the scariest social experiment I have ever witnessed!

He didn't give much notice (a week). For the prior mandate - he gave about a month. And the parties it impacted were eligible for the vaccine for months prior to the mandate.
Even if he gave a month, people that aren't going to vaccinate their 5 and up kids, just aren't going to do it anyway. So what's the difference, really?
I think some people might have changed their mind if they had some time to digest and see how it impacted others. Now they are forced. Sometimes it's nice to do things on your own terms.

No one is changing their mind, and they knew this was coming since it was mandated for 12 and up when 12 year old's were eligible for the vaccine. Now 5 and up are eligible, so did no one really think he wouldn't mandate it? Just something new to complain about, I guess. And no, a lot of things related to Covid don't make sense, but this goes hand in hand with the other mandates he have given, so no one should be surprised. At all.
I know plenty of people who changed their minds for their older kids over the last 6 mos so people will change their minds.
But you are right, it shouldn't come as a surprise as his last big hurrah. I'm anticipating the booster mandate next.
Can Adams reverse all this nonsense when he gets in to office?
I certainly hope so

That has always been the nature of viruses, to become weaker as time passes, not because of a vaccine but because that’s how viruses work. They claim vaccines would prevent variants but that’s not the case because variants will happen regardless of vaccines but they will be weaker.

I don’t think they can require it for school yet since it’s not FDA approved and school is something kids HAVE to do… where after school activities aren’t.

I meant any after school activities. Like clubs etc. for high school. I don't believe you had to be vaccinated but now you do.

But for all intents and purposes they are mandating it. It's just so crazy. And you KNOW that the rest of the state will be soon to follow.

I don't know who you are speaking of, but I totally think that they will mandate for the next school year and I think it's ridiculous. People that are for this mandate need to really think carefully because it's going to start a slippery slope. Next up Flu shot. I did vaccinate my children but for personal reasons but I will 100% stand up for a parent's right not to vaccinate if that is their choice. There is not enough data and it has not be tested enough nor has it been proven effective to place any mandates on it for children.
