vacuum recommendations
I need a new vacuum. any recommendations? mid range price, not llooking for anything super expensive, just something that works well on wood and carpet.

I have a Kenmore Progresive from Sears cannister. We love it. You should do a search there have been a million posts on this

I just got a Sears progressive canister too. Im not sure of the model # but its the white one. Im very happy with it, it works great on my carpets and the hardwood.
I did some research and the progressives were very highly rated. If you check them out, the price difference between most of the models is based on the length of the hose and nothing more.
ETA: It was around $250

Just wanted to add that I also have a Kenmore canister vacuum from Sears and I LOVE IT!!! I have hardwood, tile and carpet, and it works wonderfully on all three. I got it for Christmas in 2005 and I highly recommend it.
