Re: Vaginal births and pushing
It actually didn't occur to me to look. My doctor asked if I wanted to feel his head and when I declined he asked if I wanted a mirror and I declined that also. I think if we have another baby I may want a mirror. Just for a quick peek!

I didn't see my DD come out. I'm not sure if I could have either, but I wasn't asked to look. DH saw the whole thing though... lucky bastaard!!

Re: Vaginal births and pushing
I definitely didn't want to see anything-- but, I did see her crowning I guess... and when they pulled her out, I was looking down. Ugh, then the placenta.

Re: Vaginal births and pushing
They never offered me a mirror but my DH's face said it all. :) I did somehow see his privates before anyone else and remember shreiking "It's a boy!!" and then burst into tears (of joy).
On a sidenote, I did see the reflection of my c/s in the metal of the overhead light.

Re: Vaginal births and pushing
With Madelyn they told me to look but I had my eyes screwed up tight to push. After almost 3 hours, there was no WAY I was taking a break to watch.
With Eliza, she came so fast no one thought to tell me to look. Thats ok though, during a break between contractions, I looked up and saw everything in the reflection of an unlit light.
However, I was blessed to be able to watch my SIL give birth to my nephew (when I was 35 weeks pregnant myself ). It was by far the single most life-altering experience of my life.
Going through childbirth is an amazing thing- but everything is kind of dream-like and fuzzy when I think about my own birth experiences. To watch the unbelieveable strength needed to push a child into this world is unlike anything I've ever seen. Even though I've been through it twice on my own- I still look at my SIL with such admiration.
Our husbands/SO have no idea how lucky they are to witness it.

Re: Vaginal births and pushing
There was a mirror at the end of the bed until she started crowning...then they moved the mirror. I was able to see her coming out though and I think (based on what I saw earlier in the mirror) that was the better angle for me LOL

Re: Vaginal births and pushing
My mom asked the midwife for a mirror and I watched my son being born, to be quite honest, I was so caught up in the moment I can't really remember what I saw, but it was amazing to see what everyone else saw.

Re: Vaginal births and pushing
I totally did not want to see the baby coming out. I didn't want Husband to see either. I thought it would ruin sex in the future.
I must admit I felt a bit freaked out when the baby first came out all wet and covered in blood. They placed the baby on my tummy and the umbilical cord scared me. I didn't know what to do. My motherly instincts sunk in when I got to our room and the baby was all cleaned up.
