Valium and claustrophobia...

I was wondering what peoples experience has been with Valium. I have severe claustrophobia, and I went for an MRI today. I freaked out and did not go through with it. My doctor wrote me a prescription for Valium, and I am afraid it is not going to work and I am going to have to cancel my appointment again.

I don't know what I am looking for here. Just maybe anyones experience on Valium to give me a piece of mind.

I love Valium- it makes you very relaxed- esp. if you are not used to it

Re: Valium and claustrophobia...

valium is a muscle relaxer/anti anxity drug
its fantastic lol
you just relax head to toe and may even take a nap .... if he gave you more try one before you go there to get the feel of the med
you'll be fine

Thanks ladies! I am trying my best to stay calm, but I hate not knowing how I react to drugs and knowing exactly how I react to small spaces.

Not sure about the claustrophobia but I took valium before my embryo transfer... they gave me 2 and I was knocked out! I literally fell asleep while waiting for the doctor and I barely even remember the transfer Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

For the MRI, my tip is to just close your eyes and don't open them until you get out. Just pretend you are asleep in your own bed.

Oh I hope I am like you Hayley and just fall asleep. I was in the MRI machine for literally two seconds before I freaked out and told them there was no way I could go through with it. And that was before the loud banging noise even started!
