Vanilla Frosting?
Does anyone have a good cupcake frosting recipe that IS NOT the butter/confectioner's sugar/milk/vanilla extract recipe?
I can't STAND that frosting, it's too heavy, too sweet, and TOO buttery ......but I can't seem to find anything else online!
I'm looking for something with the taste of betty crocker in the can crap - but not all of the crap IN it !!

Re: Vanilla Frosting?
If you go on Pinterest type in Vegan Buttercream there are tons, otherwise every icing will have all if not most of those ingredients. The vegan ones look yummy but never tried it.

Thanks - I don't expect the frostings NOT to have any or all of those ingredients, but there has to be something that lightens it up, something different to add ........I don't know

Vanilla Frosting?
Try a marshmallow based icing. I would just Google I have a recipe but it's from a book I lent out. It will give you a completely different taste/ texture.

No - but that is a GREAT idea. So I make both and just fold the whipped into the buttercream? I'll try that.

Re: Vanilla Frosting?
Did you try adding a little salt to cut the sweetness? Also what's your ratio mine doesn't come out buttery....I use a stick for a whole box of sugar.

Re: Vanilla Frosting?
I love Swiss meringue buttercream, but I'm not sure if that is what you are looking for as it isn't so sweet.
Martha Stewart has a good recipe.

Vanilla Frosting?
I would do the buttercream/whipped cream mix, it's delicious and light.
I have also made a pudding-type frosting, comes out like a thick cream. Mix instant pudding with half the recommended amount of milk, when thickened, fold in a tub of cool whip. Sometimes I make this just to eat out of the bowl!

ITA- this is so delicious, light fluffy and only a little sweet. I use Martha Stewart's recipe too.

Re: Vanilla Frosting?
I tried 3x and taste tested negative in my house .......both cake and frosting - I can't tell you how much $$$$ i wasted in good quality ingredients !!
My youner son and I liked the cream cheese/real whipped cream one - but noone else did.
I threw in the towel and used boxed cake mix and the fake stuff -
I colored it, piped it on ........and I swear to you every single adult at that party was raving and asking me where I bought the cupcakes
little did they know the amount of high fructose corn syrup ingested that day ........
