Veneers
Anyone here have them?
The more and more I look at my smile, I really hate it...I don't even want to be in pictures with my husband and children...it's that bad. I am now holding my hand up in front of my smile these days...I'm just sad.
Just wondering what your experiences were? How bad were your teeth? Was it painful? How long did it take? Cost? Who did you use?
Did I mention I FEAR the dentist with every fiber in me?
Any experiences you are willing to share, I appreciate it! FM if you like...
Thanks so much! <------ what I'd like my smile to look like!!

Re: Veneers
My good friend had them done. There is no pain involved- they are just basically cementing a thin veneer over your existing tooth. The problem is- they don't last forever. She had a lot of problems with the cement wearing away and them chipping off. It definitely requires upkeep.
Is it the color of your teeth that you are unhappy with or the size/shape/alignment?

Thanks for replying...
It's the alignment...I went to a couple of orthodontists a couple of years ago to see about Invisalign...they say it wouldn't work on me....that I would have to get regular braces - at the time I never even considered veneers, so I didn't ask about them.
I work with kids so the thought of braces embarrasses me.
My bottom teeth shifted greatly after getting a wisdom tooth removed, which then made one of my front teeth protrude out...I hate my smile. And I have one tooth that is way too yellow...not just stained.
Do you know how soon after she had the work done that your friend was having problems? Do you know what the upkeep is like?

I know her dentist said it should last 10 years and she had problems after less than 5. It could be that her dentist just did a bad job. In general I think they are supposed to last around 10 years or so... The upkeep should only require getting them fixed once their "shelf life" is over...she just had to get them fixed too soon in her opinion. She ended up getting porcelian crowns now and they will last her forever... However, they are MUCH more expensive and require a lot of dental work and shots, etc...

Re: Veneers
I have them on 6 teeth. I had it done about 20 years ago and they are perfectly intact. They wear like regular teeth and over time if your gums recede you may see that in your gum line.
It was totally painless and one of the best things I ever did for myself. I have a confident smile.
I had severe discoloration and deformity because as a kid I was on many antibiotics for many years.
