Vent - Baby on Board??? TWO cars hit me in 2 weeks!

I was coming out of the bank in Garden City 2 weeks ago and I got to watch someone slam into my PARKED car. No one was in my car thankfully. A little damage to my back bumper, the woman hit me pulling into a space. I reported it.

Then this past week we are on Jericho Tpke near Elwood Road stopped at a light. Some guy rear ended my car. No damage, but the baby WAS in the car. The first thing I told him when we got out was "you know there's a baby in the car?" and "if I have even a scratch this MUST be reported b/c it's a COMPANY CAR". That's right buddy, your rates go up and I just deal with paperwork! Love that part. None of us was hurt, and DD seemed fine... DH said he didn't think anything was wrong so we let it go since there was no damage either, but I did take his info. I'll mention it to the pediatrician on Tuesday when we go for her checkup.

I never thought I'd be a "baby geek" and put one of those 1980's signs that seemed to make their way back (remember "beach bum on board" or Golden Retriever lover on board"). I'm almost considering a "BABY ON BOARD" sign. Does this help though? I really think people don't give a rats a** about anyone but themselves - not even a little baby. When your in that metal container on wheels your just in THEIR way. EXCUUUUUSSSEE MEEE!

What is wrong LI???? Does everyone really need to get EVERYWHERE so fast that it doesn't matter who is hit??? I was tempted to report the second incident just to be a ****** - but an angel was looking out for the moron and there was no damage and my DH is a mush. Again, no skin off of my back. Until I or my DD get hurt. It's always been bad, but lately I have notice the aggression and the damn CELL PHONES??? What happened to the law that was passed about those? Why I am I paying these rediculous taxes to live here and the darn cops aren't giving out tickets by the bucketful? I swear sometimes that I am the only one with a handsfree thingie in my ear, and I'm only on the phone for work. Personal calls do not have to be taken on the road. Clearly there's a problem here.

I'm serioulsy TERRIFIED to take DD out in the car now. I mean twice in LESS than 2 weeks. Anyone else afraid to leave the house???

My one DD who was 5 and didnt have to be in her booster anymore ( the law didnt pass yet ) was bruised badly on her chest from the seatbelt the doc said it could have been worse if she wasnt in the booster !! and my other DD was a couple of months old but ok !!

I used to be soooo nervous driving with DS. I had the window shades that said Baby on Board. Tacky, but whatever, it made me feel better.

Honestly, when I am drving on a highway I don't really notice those signs. But driving on roads I do, and I tend to be a little more cautious around them and try not to curse them out and zoom pastChat Icon j/k

Maybe it's just b/c I'm a mom now, but I just don't know where everyone needs to go so quickly. And it's not just the young male teens anymore... Old men are horrilbe drivers - often believing they have some "entitlement" and are too aggressive for their age, women I hate to say it - usually when I see a driver on a cell phone it's a woman. It's like people forget driving a car is the same as "operating heavy machinery" hence someone can get hurt. I also don't get it when men give women the finger... I'm so sad that one day I could be with DD and some guy gets annoyed with me and makes a gesture that she sees - what will she make of this world?

B/c my cars are not mine - I don't get choices as to what to drive... so I'm not the "typical" mom in a SUV or minivan. But the plus is that I don't pay for cars or insurance or gas so it's totally worth it and my company gives them to all sales employees. However, I don't think people take into consideration that there could be a family in a car. I don't know what I'd do to the person if anyone every caused harm to my DD b/c of recklessness. People make mistakes and I get that (although I've never seen anyone else throw me a bone when I've made a harmless mistake - usually they have to roll down their window and point out the obvious - I'm like "thank God you told me that - what would the world do without you playing traiffic police?"), but not paying attention or driving too fast is crazy. I thought to myself too of the woman that drove way too fast into the parking space that hit my car... what if I had been putting DD in the car and she was in the stroller right where the car was hit? The lady had no regard for how fast she was turning into the spot - I mean my car was BOUNCING she hit it so hard. Or even if she hit me while I was strapping in DD - it could pose a threat to DD's safety. Even when I take DD for walks if I see a car signaling to turn I just stop and let them go... I never try to outrun them. People just don't care... it's VERY sad actually.
