vent about having to apartment shop and everyone saying get rid of my boys
We have to move out of our apartment and we adopted my sister in laws cats 2 years ago.. these cats are my little babies. Why cant my family get over the fact that I'd live in my car befor I give up my boys. I refuse to give them up and I know I can find a new apartment that will let my cats stay. It just annoys me that people think that animals are so disposable. OK vent over.

It's even sadder when they end up at a high kill shelter and die because of it, so serious amounts of respect for you!

Its sick how people think that... and I too have family who thinks I should get rid of my dogs and cats...

I've started to tell them.. "I'd never ask you to abandon your kid...so quit asking me to abandon mine."

Ugh. I feel you!!! DH and my ILs wanted me to give up my pups or at least one (wellllll, two giant pups  ) when our landlord broke our lease in December. It was so close to me living in my mom's basement with the two dogs and him living at his parents house until we figured something out. Luckily, we found a place that would let us keep the dogs. It IS possible. Good luck and just try not to flip your ish on them. I know I wanted to, but you should really feel sorry for them because they just don't understand the bond there and the responsibility that comes along with adopting a pet.

I know exactly what you mean..My MIL is so great with her comments ...I have two beautiful cats (at least to me they are)..and every time my husband and I get a cold she always says get rid of those cats!!!
One day I will come back with an answer......There my furbabies......

I hear it all the time- especially about cats.
I once overheard a conversation in the hallway here at work where the guy was like- oh if you can't find a place, just get rid of the cats, they are just cats, it's not like it's a dog.
I wanted to go up and punch this a-hole in the face!
People are disgusting human beings.

Right because cat's are so known to carry the rhinovirus.
They also steal a baby's breath.

When I was pregnant everyone kept asking when I was getting rid of my dog and cats. My response was when they die of old age. They were here before my child was. Or omg you let your animals touch the baby. Yes I don't want the animals hating my child. People are idiots.

I think often times these people have never known the love of an animal, or they're just saying it to feel superior like they're smarter than you and you're just too dumb to realize the obvious solution. Either way, I'd shut down those conversations at the first sign. You'll get a reputation for being sensitive about the subject but it's better than listening to other people's BS.

We actually decided to buy a house because we couldn't find a decent pet-friendly rental on LI.
Yup, we are essentially buying a house because of our dog.
