Vent ...auto drivers

Do they know they are not supposed to honk their horns when a child is being dropped off / picked up from the bus?
I caught a woman in her late 50's driving a Mercedes honking her horn 2X. The first time I waved that the bus would be gone in a minute and she did it again.

Re: Vent ...auto drivers

Was it when the kids were getting off or when a parent was yapping with the bus driver? I have never honked but find it very annoying when parents do that. If there are cars behind the bus or the other side of the road, it is rude to just stand there having a conversation.

I was not standing there (yapping away like I had nothing better else to do) and having a conversation. The bus screwed up my son's drop off and I was asking one question... I was not long and indicated that we would be done in a minute.

Did you know you can get a ticket for this?

Ticket for beeping? Nope never heard of it. Seen too many times parents just yapping away with the driver as the rest of us were trying to get to work.
You're question was probably just quick and needed but being in that position many times before, I can see why the driver was annoyed.

If I ever see a parent "yapping" away with a bus driver, I don't assume it's trivial, as I don't know anyone on earth who enjoys tedious perfunctory conversations with near strangers/service providers while a line of irate drivers develop behind them. I would assume a necessary conversation is taking place as most parents are anxious to pick up their kids and get on with it. My son also has a disability that isn't necesarily visible so I make sure to be extra patient if parents/kids are taking a while to vacate a bus. Children's safety is paramount. If this consistently posed a problem with me getting to work on time, I would start leaving earlier before I leaned on my horn to intimidate parents and young children into moving faster.

Seen it plenty of times and the sahm's at my kids stop used to do the same thing. I encountered a mom one time yapping when I was on lunch dropping off a half day kindergartener. There was a long line behind the bus and she was yapping and laughing away. A little consideration for others is appreciated. I have never been late to work because of this but it is still annoying.

Exactly ... and my son has a delay / IEP along with speech issues. Just because you assume someone is yapping away for leisure does not mean they actually are. Trust me ... honking the horn will not make the bus move along faster. If it annoys you, leave for your destination a little earlier if you know it is a route that drops off and picks up kids OR just take another route.

I understand being annoyed waiting for the bus to move but keep to yourself. Honking at the bus is uncalled for and if people are that worried about being late for work or an appointment, leave earlier. If someone honked at me while I was talking to the bus driver it would just make me talk longer.

Re: Vent ...auto drivers

Oh I agree the honking is not right. I wouldn't do that but just because some parents don't need to be someplace after their kids get on the bus, some others do. I always leave at a certain time not to get stuck behind the busses but sometimes it happens as the bus could be earlier that day.
Everyone should just be considerate of others and I have seen so many that are not. Like I said these parents were even at my own stop. They had no other place to go and thought nothing of having conversations that were either too long or just not needed.

If the child is on the bus and seated safely, can't the driver turn off the stop sign if he/she is having a conversation with a parent?

People are self absorbed and have zero patience for anything in life that doesn't revolve around them. I can't tell you how many people I see blow right by the bus all the time because they are in a hurry. Even in the school parking lot when the stop sign is out, and lights flashing. A little patience goes a long way, but too bad most people these days lack it!
