*VENT* Failing my 1hr Glucose test does NOT mean I'm Diabetic
This is just a vent..
So I told my co-worker who happens to be pregnant herself (due 10/9/08) and just took HER glucose test the same day I did....
I said I failed it and my iron was low.
No biggie, I just have to take the 3hr now... *shrug*
Then later the conversation with the ladies was on Ice Cream Sandwiches. I just bought a box this weekend. Now I eat one when I get home. OMG the end of the freaking world.. “You can’t eat those, you’re diabetic” says another coworker. Now obviously preggo coworker has told the office my results and I really don’t care that much about that, but who are you to tell me what I can and can’t eat?
I’m not diabetic (yet)! I just failed the test, big whoop.. that’s why there’s another. Heck if no other reason it’s a good EXCUSE to eat those ice cream sandwiches while I still can.
Now it’s lunch time and I’m eating my chicken broccoli with rice (leftovers from dinner a few days ago, HOME MADE mind you) and I get lectured again “really, are you seriously going to eat those carbs?”
What gives.. I’m an adult and 7months pregnant, what gives you balls to say what I can and can’t have?
PLUS a coworker brought in Red Velvet Cup Cakes for me and I have one at my desk for later… and lets just say the disapproving stares are getting to me a lil.
Seriously.. I actually eat very little sugary stuff. I love my carrots, apples and bananas. I eat a banana every day in the morning and a apple on the way home and I snack on veggies all day with salads normally for lunch. I don’t eat chocolate bars, etc but it hurts my teeth. Why am I under a microscope now?

OMG, I would be so livid!! First of all, people should mind their own business, second, where did they all get their medical degree that they can make that diagnose for you?
I am sorry you have to put up with this 
..on a side note, you got me craving an ice cream sandwich now!

I had GD and occasionally had ice cream anyway. My doctor said it is ok to splurge once in awhile as long as you are able to control the GD with diet. Tell you coworker to mind her own business!!!!

I honestly don't know anything about GD or failing the 1 hr but won't it make it worse if you eat ice cream everynight? Or does that have nothing to do with it? When do you go for the 3 hr?

It wont' make it worse because it's not your diet that caused the GD, it's the increase in hormones that is causing your body to have a hard time tolerating the glucose in your system. Once your "officially" diagnosed with GD (as I just was) then you have to cut a lot of sugars out of your diet, ice cream being one of them which is killing me. But I'm with Xelindrya.............eat 'em while you can because once you can't it's very hard!!!

Yep what she said..
Plus I have to fast for 12hours prior to the 3hour test so what I eat three days before will really make no difference at all.

Actually my endocrinologist and nutrionist have GD patients eat 1/2 cup of haagen daz each night, particularly if you have had issues with ketones in your urine (the icecream must not be light it must be regular because the fat allows your blood sugar to remain stable through the night and not plummet).

b/c people can't keep their freakin mouths shut and they think they know it all. Do these ladies even have kids or know what the 1hr test, 3hr test or GD is all about? GRRRR I hate people like that.
