[ VENT ] i'm sorry but i have no patience for..
...people who think they know what 'busy' means!!!!
Childless friends... my mom who works P/T and was making centerpieces for my sister's bday party saying how exhausting it is... etc....
I wake up at 5:30 AM for the first full-time job (DC), then I'm working in the office almost 50 hours a week, then back home to DC -- NON STOP with no break on the weekends, people!!!! Can't call in sick! Can't take a break (except for 10 mins to log onto LIF and complain!!!) And there is no end in sight!!!!!
I'm sorry but you people have no idea what 'busy' means!!!!!!!

Re: [ VENT ] i'm sorry but i have no patience for..
I know what you mean. I work with either single girls or married ones with no kids and they have NO clue how hard kids are. They constantly talk on Fridays how they can sleep in tomorrow (I WISH!!). I just want my ds to sleep through the night (he is 3 1/2!). They think kids are just "so cute". Try having one talk back to you, hit you, spit, etc. Sometimes it is just not too fun. They can't understand because they are aunt's and are around kids all the time. There is a HUGE difference between an aunt and mother. I love my kids to death but it is not an easy job and after going to work all day, it is even harder when you are so stressed and tired from the day and then you go to your 2nd ft job!

I know when you are a mom and work full time as well its hard to hear from a single friend with no kids how busy they are...but remember its all relative and even though they have no kids etc does not mean they are not busy..just diffrent busy!
I remember before I had my DD I was always doing stuff...never had a minute to myself or so I thought....since I have had her I now know a diffrent type of busy...but its a happier busy

I hear ya! My brother is always over here yawning. Sometimes I want to strangle him. What's so tiring about his life? There are no children for him to take care of!! He has no reason not to get plenty of sleep and be well rested.

I agree...I have a SIL who claims to be the busiest person alive...she is 35 and single and is never home. She's a tad crazy so that keeps her busy also. I remember being single and thinking "wow where did the day go?" Working, happy hours, shopping can really get a girl tired. Now sit back and thing...what the heck did I do all day when I wasnt' married with kids? Its all relative.

I see what you mean - but with that kind of busy you are doing things for YOURSELF and can stop and take a nap AT ANY TIME WITHOUT INTERRUPTIONS.
****HUGE DIFFERENCE****

I totally agree that their is a huge difference but you just can't explain that to someone until they have kids....until then...they too will think they are the busiest person on the planet.

Very very true. My gf's with no kids are ALWAYS tired and can't get to work on time. I guess I am used to getting up at night and having a routine in the morning with 2 kids.

I shy away from making sweeping generalizations along the lines of "until you have kids, you don't know buy".
People without kids can have exhausting lives ...my DH gets more rest now (as a WAHD who's home with Ella often OR on the road) than he did as a grad student.

I just try not to compare the different types of "busy"- there are som very busy, single, childless people out there. Everyone's got their own, different obligations and I wouldn't give up my "busy" for anything

I have to agree. I was in grad school ft, interning full time and working full time and also planning my wedding. Being a mommy is the bwst busy I could have asked for so I am actually okay with this.

I agree.
Let me preface by saying I am not a parent. There are lots of people (single and married) without children who lead EXTREMELY busy and stressful lives. They have other sorts of obligations.
When a person doesn't have children the time they would use (once they do have children) may actually be used constructively. They may be responsible for the care of elderly parents. They may have to supplement their incomes with second jobs to support a mortgage or pay off student loans. To be honest, even if they did not have any obligations to anyone and were financially sound, I would rather see people fill their lives with fun and active things to do making them busy rather than bored. It makes a person more interesting. I just dont think it is fair to qualify how someone uses time if they do not have children.
I am looking forward to a different kind of busy becoming a parent, but until that happens, I need to fill my life with things to do so I can go to bed at night knowing I have maximized my time during the day.

I can only speak for myself but I have NEVER felt as exhausted as I did after I had kids. It is a non-stop day and until they are older, it does not end. My son is 3 1/2 and he has me running everyday with needing this and needing that. I accomplish nothing some days. At least when I had no kids, I could stop and rest when I wanted to.

Re: [ VENT ] i'm sorry but i have no patience for..
That doesn't bother me. After dropping dc#2 at her school at 7:30am, dc#1 at his school at 8:04, & catching the 8:11am train every day, I still think about the good old days before children I would miss my train because I couldn't to the station on time.
It makes me laugh to think how busy I used to think I was. I was there once & can appreciate the ignorance.
eta. also I would bet that any of the Multiple Board moms think "Busy? She's only got one baby!"

I think we all can have busy lives no matter if we have kids or not, but being the exclusive caregiver (of children, elderly parents or anyone else where you are on call 24/7) is a job w/o breaks. You are "on" constantly and don't have some of the personal luxuries of life before.
I think the original poster was trying to get the point across that life is different when you have to ALWAYS consider someone else's needs before you do ANYTHING.

Its all relative. Yeah, you can't stop and nap, but to someone w/o kids who thinks they are busy- they are too 'busy' to take naps either.

So true, PositiveTest
I posted something like that a while ago, except it was my pet peeve on people who say they are exhausted...
Please, I used to think I knew what exhausted means, till I became a full time working, around the clock breastfeeding mother with no cleaning lady!
We have 2 full time jobs here, always, one of which is the kind that permits NO holidays of any kind, we are on the post and in charge 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, no matter how we are feeling, no matter how your day went, so don't you tell me how tired YOU are! Same goes for busy!

Re: [ VENT ] i'm sorry but i have no patience for..
I think busy is relative to the individual. I feel very busy now that i have twins then before but in a different way. Now everything i do is for someone else..I just don't have time to do much for myself like i did before. I don't know how people work full time with babies..I wouldn't be able to do it. Parenting is a Full time job with no breaks..

Well said!!! I think this is really the line of demarcation. I was also busy pre kids, but no one could have explained to me post kids busy.
