Vent: Newsday
Ok, so I'm sure someone is going to post about this later. Anyway there is an article on Newsday.com about the fire district audit and what they found.
Well one of the findings is that a district paid 615 for playboy. That is all that is stated in the article not the facts.
The state audit report is actually out and a footnote says: The West Islip Fire District indicated that it has removed the individual responsible for the cable charges, recouped the money, and informed the cable company that the district will under no circumstances pay for any adult themed entertainment
Now, when makes me mad is that I pay for my weekend subscripton to newsday and when I go to make a comment about the article on their site and how they forgot all the facts, they delete my comment!
Whatever the issue may be and how you feel about what they print, it just annoys me they don't print the real and accurate facts.

Maybe they did pay for it? I mean, they might say they won't pay for it in the future, but I can't imagine how they'd get out of paying something that one of their firemen ordered.

Re: Vent: Newsday
WHAT?
OK so many things wrong here. First..pure news reporting...when are we ever going to see it again.
Second, that is very unfair to the WIFD, who I am sure will get inundated with phone calls now...exactly what you want to do...flood the telephone lines of an emergency service.
And lastly, They deleted your comments.....oh please, how cowardly! They can dish it out but not take it?

Re: Vent: Newsday
Newsday is being VERY creative in their stories.
I know of 2 in particular. 2 co-workers were actually a family member of someone mentioned in a story or part of the story. They both told me the "REAL" story. It was totally wrong or twisted to make the story fit their political belief.

yes they did pay for it because a member who was kicked out ordered it excessively and had to pay the district back for it. My dad is a commissioner and I know the whole story. So yes the printed that, and what I was saying is that in the NY state audit report there is a footnote that mentions the situation. However, newsday didn't print why the bill was so high and how it got the money back.
They are doing it to make the fire districts look bad and its not fair when they only print half a story because the average person won't read the official audit report and know the truth behind it.

There's a song out on the radio and I can't for the life of me think of who it is but it says something like:
"if the press is our only source of communicating, they can spin it however they want."
And its so true.....

Ok, now I see what you mean. They only told part of the story. It's total BS that your comment was deleted. Are you going to write a letter to the Editor?

Re: Vent: Newsday
thats because Newsday is a communist newspaper. I read part 2 and throw the rest in the litterbox where it belongs.
This is why people are so jaded about the media. how about telling the truth for once!

I wrote an email to the girl who's name was on the story. My comments are now back up. I know there is a lot of controversy on LI with the fire districts and spending. Everyone has their own take and that's not what I am making this thread about. I just want Newsday to print both sides so that there isn't more controversy.

Newsday is ridiculous. I have a friend who works for the Suffolk County Crime Scene and he cannot believe what newsday prints about accidents/crimes that he works on. Totally inacurate.

I am so confused. What is the other side of the story?
I am sure this has been going on for years. It is just this year they got caught and will not do it anymore.

Newsday is notorious for doing things like this. They especially love bashing volunteers in emergency services for some reason. Oh yeah, and teachers too.

Re: Vent: Newsday
Newsday is compeletly ridiculous, and I can never believe anything that is printed in there paper as fact. I too know of stories that were publshed and not the real facts of what happened.
Like Jennifer I am also familiar with this particular comment about the fire department and its complete bull and not the whole story.

the other side of the story is that it hasn't been going on for years, that a particular person who is no longer a member was caught ordering it over and over again and was forced to pay the bill. That's what I was talking about with footnotes on the state audit.
