Hey there...as you know we been to both.
Shipwreck Cove, aka, Bayshore is nice in that there is 6-12 inches of water (mini pool) in the whole area (good for babies). They have little sprays around the entire circumference.
I didn't like that walking up to the big slide you cross this area & you can get soaked by the bucket water.
For bigger kids (Brandon would love it) they have a big slide (lifeguard at top/bottom) into about 2 feet of water at bottom.
They also had a small slide & then little guns of water. (Let me find some pics).
Around the perimeter they have chairs/umbrellas (you don't get wet at all here).
It is more expensive if you aren't an Islip resident though...$10 to park & $10 per person (I believe 3 & under is free).
I believe you went to Venetian...there's a lot of little spray area; shooting water, buckets (no slides). The area around the outside you tend to get wet (depending on the wind).
I think Tanner is a nice mix of the 2 w/ slides & sprays, etc.
Not a great pic...but you get an idea.
Everyone is going to Tanner today. Check debsey's post.

I like the the design of Tanner except for the ground cover they chose. I saw at least four children in one hour's time fall and get scraped up on it (bleeding and crying - I felt so bad for them). So if you go there, just be careful if your DC run around a lot.

Thank you, this is good to know then....
Both my DC's got pretty banged up at the Hoyt sprinkler park which is on cement...I think I'll shoot for one of the other two

Stacey, we were there today & it was fine. As you can see in the above pics...all the area around the sprinklers is all rubber padding in beige, no issues, although outside the edge is concrete.

The area under the sprinklers isn't cement, but it's not soft rubber padding either (like Venetian Shores). It is some type of rough ground cover. If your DC doesn't fall, it's not a problem and I imagine it provides good traction. But, as I said, I sat and watched at least four different children who did fall and they were scraped up and bleeding and crying.

Re: Ventian-vs-Bayshore Marina..Which did you like better and why ?
Thank you again!
My DD sometimes is clumsy and DS can be a bit of a wildman , so I think a park with the softer padding may be the way to go this summer
