Verizon Wireless Said to Start Offering IPhone in January

June 29 (Bloomberg) -- Verizon Wireless, the largest U.S.
mobile-phone company, will start selling Apple Inc.’s iPhone
next year, ending AT&T Inc.’s exclusive hold on the smartphone
in the U.S., two people familiar with the plans said.
The device will be available to customers in January,
according to the people, who declined to be named because the
information isn’t public. Brenda Raney, a spokeswoman for
Verizon Wireless, did not immediately return a call seeking
comment. Natalie Kerris, an Apple spokeswoman, and Peter Thonis,
a Verizon Communications Inc. spokesman, declined to comment.

See I don't believe this article -- because there are network issues concerning the use of iPhone with Verizon. The iPhone is on GSM but Verizon uses CDMA.
The new type of network, LTE, is coming out sometime in 2011 or 2012.
Only then would it be feasible for the iPhone to come over to Verizon. Besides the exclusivity contract with Apple & AT&T runs out in 2012.
The CDMA network does NOT allow subscribers to surf the web and be on the phone at the same time, which is a big thing that is advertised with the iPhone. This is one of the reasons Verizon & T-Mobile are going to be building the LTE network.

the iPhone is popular because apple keeps reinventing it. The brand is high also because of advertising. Dorids pretty much do everything an iPhone can do better. Im holding out for Windows 7 mobile devices personally but take a look at droid if you really want an iPhone..

A few months ago it was mentioned that production would start for Verizon iphones in the fall. Sales wouldn't happen until Summer 2011. I think that is more believable than January. But guess, we'll never really know until it does happen.
