Very Frustrating... (VENT)
I'm trying. I'm REALLY trying.
It's just that adoption centers are REALLY REALLY REALLY picky about who they'll adopt to, or where they'll adopt to. Look, you have a dog who needs a home and I will give it a GOOD HOME.
Yes I have spent hours and hours on Petfinder. Yeah, I'm being picky. But I do have special needs - I want a miniature poodle, and I need a purebred because I cannot have a shedding dog due to allergies. My heart is set on a female, but I'll budge on that. I also really want a light colored dog (preferably apricot or red, but that's up for discussion).
I had a mini poodle for SEVENTEEN YEARS!!!!! Is this not enough "experience" for these people?????
Also, half these dogs have 8,000,000,000 problems with health or psychological issues with children or men or people with noses. I just feel like I find the perfect dog, the perfect situation, and they'll say no, we won't adopt to you because you're too far away, or no, you may not have children now but you want to have children and don't you realize that the only children who matter are your furbabies???
I'm so tired of feeling guilty over knowing what kind of dog I want. There is a little puppy out there who is meant for us, I know it. I'm just so frustrated with the search.
Thanks for letting me vent.

Re: Very Frustrating... (VENT)
It is sometimes very frustrating to become an accepted candidate for rescue. I finally gave up trying to become a rescue of a Chinese Crested and just adopted one from a breeder.
Especially when you are very specific about what you want, they seem to throw you to the bottom of the pile. I also had some pretty specific traits that I did/did not want, including sex, age and colour. I was not so concerned with minor health issues, but since I have 2 other dogs, did not want a dog with communicable diseases, or anthing that would make a dog vulnerable against the other dogs.
I know it stinks, but keep looking on petfinder, and do a couple of google searches to see if there are soeme Breed-specific rescue groups that can help.

Re: Very Frustrating... (VENT)
I was put through the ringer several years ago when I went to adopt my yellow lab at north shore animal league. Granted, I was 22 and living in an apartment, but I also had labs growing up. Plus, just like many of you, I swear that no one could give their dog more love and affection than I do to mine! When I told them that my last lab died at the age of 18, they questioned me and wanted to know if they could contact the vet to confirm! Hello - - - HE WAS 18!
So sorry for you! Hang in there, the right dog will find you at the right time!
