I've heard dryer sheets work. I have yet to try them.

I use dryer sheets all time, they don't really work well, I just like the way they make my hair smell!!
Also I've read that spraying a little hair spray in your brush and brushing your hair with it works, I've never tried it though.

I don't have long hair put I spray some hairspray on my hands and then smooth it over my hair. Helps.

I always used to get crazy static but I started using It's a 10 leave in spray last winter and it worked great to prevent static.

Try bed head manipulator. It is not made specifically for static but it helps.

Re: very long hair + winter + static (a vent)
I think that the frizz smoothing products help. I always liked Redken Glass. When I finally decided to cut my hair everyone wondered why I did it in the winter. When it was long I hated the fact that just taking my coat on and off would make my hair messy. Long hair is easy & fun in the summer--blow driyng is optional and there are some fun updos. The winter is when it becomes tough to care for & tough to have it looking good.
I am not saying to cut your hair. I used to hate when people said that to me. I love my shorter hair but I still admit that most men love women with long hair!!!!
Try a smoothing product and if you have time not to blow dry that will help.

Try the Garnier Sleek and Shine leave in conditioner. Both DD and I have long hair and this is the only product I've ever found that works!
